  • Boyd Cordner Retiring

Very sad to not see him put on the RWB for one last time

  • #2
    Just now from the DT:

Champion Sydney Roosters forward Boyd Cordner is to retire with two years remaining on his contract, forced out of the game from repeated concussions.

The Kangaroos and NSW Blues skipper had planned a Round 14 comeback this year, which has now been abandoned.

The Roosters second-rower has made the decision on medical advice after undergoing recent tests to get a clearance to return to the game.

His last appearance was for NSW in Adelaide in State of Origin last November, when he was felled while trying to tackle Queensland forward Felise Kaufusi.

Cordner played 183 games for the Roosters, starting out in 2011. He represented NSW 16 times and on 20 occasions for Australia, replacing Cameron Smith as Kangaroos captain.

His retirement will be announced at a press conference at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Monday morning.

Doesn't sound good... I hope it's a precaution rather than a permanent brain injury or something.

If true, sorry to hear. An Easts legend indeed.
Would have done wonders for the confidence of our team, not to mention The Chookpen.

There is some irony Titans trying to injure Walker by driving him into the ground with maximum force and going unpunished. A day before Cordner forced into retirement from similar driving tackles from the Storm which concussed him twice and also going unpunished.

                Devastated right now.

Still so young. Just turned 28.

                **** this season so much.

What a leader, what a legend. Hope he's doing alright.

                    29. Still had another 4-5 good years in him.

We have Angus and Sitili. I would say they are now our long term second row. Plus we have that gun Whyte coming through.

Feels like he has been around forever, can’t believe he didn’t get to 200.

With Boyd, Friendy and BMozz retiring, there would be a lot left in the cap for 22.

Time to lock in some of the young uns, Toops and Liu.

Wonder if we are seriously going to target somebody for the salary cap dispensation for the rest of the year.
