  • Bmoz vs current Origin wingers

Maybe one measure of the greatness of BMoz, compare him against the current top 4 wingers in the game.

    Addo Carr
    To'o
    Coates
    Kyle Feldt

Good players for sure, but would you have swapped a 34yo BMoz for any of those guys? Not a chance. And in his prime, he'd have have run rings around them.

The next best winger after BMoz is Toups.

haha, i agree. fox is alright but toops is definitely ahead of the other guys.

like he said, bmoz has been in something close to career best form in his time with us.

Fox is/would have been the quickest but that's it. BMoz by a country mile and not only cause he played for us. Everyone has admired the guy for years. We were just blessed to have had some of his 16 years with us.

Bmoz was easily the best winger in the comp.

He is somehow underrated defensively which is madness considering he pulled off some of the best defensive plays I’ve ever seen and was solid as rock constantly. I’m a fan of Ikuvalu but our right edge defence is no where near as strong without Bmoz.

I’m only in my early 20’s and while I watched footy as a younger kid I’d say I remember from about 2007 onwards pretty vividly, so I’ve only been watching 15 years or so but I can’t think of a player who ticks every positional attribute to their respective position like Bmoz does.

He literally has every skill/attribute you could ask for in a winger.

Rapana's pretty good, he's up there with BMoz.

Great to see that a young bloke can describe BMoz that well. You're a good judge bro.

IMO a lot of it's about who fits our gameplan the best.

I mean best winger... probably Semi Radradra in terms of 'big dude who can score a try from anywhere' (not playing obviously but I'd factor him in there with JAC and stuff). Sivo and Ravalawa are pretty good too.

Would these guys all fit our plan + budget though? I don't think that being a freakish athlete, the fastest dude in the game or the best individual try scorer necessarily makes you the 'best winger'... particularly with a heavily structured, team-centred club like ours.

To me Toops is the best because he's evolved his game. He started off as a quiet/calm dude with decent height and a decent leap. He got driven back a lot in the 2013 GF + tackling him the air became the new norm (thanks Wolf Man) but he bulked up worked on all that. Watching him next to Fergo was frustrating at times because Fergo had way more mongrel in him... like if a dude was checking him without the ball and stuff he'd shove him away and be like 'get farked, ya dikkead!!!' Whereas, Toops would just stand there and politely cop the shove.

From there Toops has gone from strength to strength. He's now view quietly the size of an extra back rower, runs hard/straight (which is difficult for a lot of 1-man-band wingers who wanna run backwards & throw goosies...etc) and he's developed an awesome passing (plus occasional kicking) game. Great team defender too... rarely caught outta position. Maybe he isn't the flashiest winger... but he plays for Tonga (a top 3-4 world team), has 3 premierships to his name and fits right into our squad exactly as needed. IMO we'll notice it big time when he retires...

Brian Toó sure he is having a good season on the end of that Riff raff backline but is not fit enough to tie the shoe laces of the guy who ties the shoe laces on Bmoz's boots........

The Fox's form in the past month or so has been ridiculous, he and Bmoz (now retired and would not have played as retired before from rep stuff) on the wings would have had me salivating. Toops would be handy and shades Toó but his metre eating efforts and Riff Raffs winning ways would have forced the selectors hand.....

This is SO true. He had the nack of knowing when not to run in and leave his opposite number unmarked. Unfortunately Ikavalu often gets caught between the opposing centre and his winger.

However you know what your going to get with Ikavalu- he busts a gut running the ball and is spectacular diving in for a try.....but you have to balance it out with at least one dropped bomb/high kick and at least one knock on on a early tackle inside the Roosters quarter.
