What irks me is the NRL's ...LOADING SYSTEM... of penalties.

Each tackle should be judged only in the game in which it happened.

"Grade 1 high tackle...accidental...not a forceful tackle...player not concussed...penalty on the field and a fine sufficient".
Not "Grade 1 high tackle etc" as above...plus "you did a tackle like this 1 yr ago, 2 yrs ago, 3yrs ago...7 years ago....5 match suspension for you."....or the like.

Fans want to see their teams at full strength except for very serious breaches of the rules.

The point I am trying to make is that hard tackling, and driving a player backwards, looks aggressive from the average punters viewpoint, and the hierarchy at the NRL.
A legitimate, driving tackle hurts a player.
Its been the fabric of our game. But let me tell you, they don't like it , and you will see stupid penalties come from it.
For example, you will be accused of holding the player down, and get 10 in the bin. .
On top of that, if that , when the defensive player drives forward, and the shoulder makes incidental contact with the head, it will be more "forceful" than an ordinary tackle.
That's a big No - No from the NRL
Their whole MO is to avoid future litigation, and to have the mums and kids identify with the game as safe to play.
Players like Rads who tackle aggressively will be under the microscope, and any of his driving tackles, where he touches the head, will be reviewed hundreds of times on replay.
You can bet repeat offenders will be targeted.
They don't care if players like Rads get rubbed out.
Being a Roosters supporter, it is really sad for the club.
Our 2 recent premierships were based on aggressive defence - its the Roosters Style.
Even Robbo applauds it and talks constantly about the "physical " side of our game..
But if you are facing 10 minutes on the sideline, and then suspensions, you are going to forfeit your 2 competition points, very very often.

The length of Victors suspension is because he had carry over points & previous indiscretions.
The judiciary has to be overhaled & there should be no points involved. If you hit someone high you should go to the judiciary & be dealt with & not have carry over points.
Its a shame that the game is going the way its going but nothing stays the same forever.

Hard to fathom that Radley misses 5 games for a tackle that didn't hurt his opponent yet Brown only gets 3 weeks for forcing a player out of the game for 6 weeks

I like the discussion but I'll repeat myself because the crux of the situation has been missed.

The NRL are hiding behind some pretense of player welfare when a mandate on illegal play was handed down a few weeks back BEFORE our game against parra.

Because of the absolute rort in that game to keep the Eels above us in the ladder, there ended up 2 incidents that both happened in the space of 5 seconds that resulted in one of our players going to hospital with further health complications ongoing.

This is diversion at its finest. Make no mistake, this is about removing the Rooster threat from the competition in order to get that trophy where they want it to go.

It's about MONEY. It's about opening the pockets of parents by the kids to spend it on SUCCESSFUL teams out west, (gear,boots,sign ups, ticket sales, better sponsors) building greater fan bases and getting a return on that shiny new Bankwest stadium.

They have made a rod for their own backs with this agenda of business.

Remember teddy in his book that he wanted to play for the chooks? We'd been a powerhouse in that time. How many kids want to follow the dogs these days?

Winning comps does so much for clubs in the long run, there are too many pretenders that haven't won anything in decades.

I read that if the Roosters can prove they would have been selected for SOO then SOO may count? - who are the NSW selectors though ?.
