  • Reward good tackles solution.

    Just some random thoughts.

If we want to reward players for making good tackles , let’s stop players offloading if momentum is stopped.
Most of the time a player will stand and two players wrestle with the ball arm , while a third comes in a takes out the legs.
it’s not entertaining , it takes so much time for the ref to call held , it’s so arbitrary.
So let just ban off loads as soon as players momentum is stopped. If a player does offload after momentum is stopped , the ref just calls “ play the ball” and they go back and play it.

it will bring back those really good offloads and plays while players are going forward ( eg SBW style)

Simple solution , I think it would work.
players will make good low tackles to stop players in their tracks.
I really hate the late offload when it’s obvious they have been stopped and then the the ref doesn’t call held , sometimes they do call held, it’s so random.
It will save players knees and ankles from the 3rd man tackle.

Here is the solution, let’s go back to how the game was in the early 2000s, perfect blend of skill, set plays and tough hard nosed footy.. the game is in a horrible spot and the refs have way too much control of the momentum... and the last thing we need is more rules for them to **** up

      Don't mind that idea.
There was a try scored in one of the games on the weekend where the player was tackled about 1m out near the posts and was basically on his back, momentum completely stopped, but was allowed to pop it up to a support player who dived over and scored. Actually it was the Souths Sharks game because Townsend argued with the ref about it and the ref said "No Chad that's fine."

I agree that low tackles should be rewarded, let the tackler get up and be the marker.

Hmm...I take your point and would love to see them rewarded more.

However, apart from kick tries, quick play the balls precede almost all others and good attacking raids. Yours would kill that.

          A conundrum.

They'll never fix anything when they continue to favour teams. All this mess is because of their inaction during the eels game. What a tangled mess they weave........

would be a good way to reward low tackles. it makes a low tackle the equivalent of a dominant tackle

I would get rid of the dominant and surrender tackle as low tackles wont ever be rewarded - if a defender tackles an attacking player around the legs from behind all the attacking player has to do is wriggle a bit and it's a penalty or even a sin bin.

Not sure why a surrender tackle isn't a voluntary tackle and penalised as such.

Refs should be calling held/tackled earlier as well - not sure how a player could be held but still allowed to get a pass away and also allow defenders to wrestle an attacking players and pull and stretch them every which way like they are made of rubber when their momentum has well and truely stopped,

Decent idea. IMO tackles have become too technical because we've let them go down that path. Most players don't go out there to intentionally clobber people in the head during tackles. However, only an idiot would go low. If you go low...
                  - You've gotta release immediately, allowing them to play the ball right away (quicker than if you'd wrestled them).
                  - They can offload freely while being pushed to the ground and you can't do much to stop it (even if they've been dominated).
                  - It's harder to make the tackle and if you stuff up, you can't slow them down or anything.

It was raised during Robbo's presser and IMO it's where we shoulda gone a looooong time ago when the Drizz started the whole wrestling BS. Rather than over-complicating stuff by adding more technicalities about what you cannot do, they shoulda done somethi g to encourage cleaner tackling!!!
