Has no one else seen Mortimer play at halfback or something?? He would be the worst in the comp by a long way. I hope he fulfills his potential but I think the best that gets him in the next 3 years is a bench utility gig.

If we were looking for the Roosters missing link instead, we should acquire the services of Sebastien Chabal while he's here in Balmain.

He really is the missing link, isn't he?

Didn't see him the other day but I am not convinced he is of any value at the moment. One game doesn't make him a 'spark' we needed. A champion player will play well most times. Mortimer might have a good game today but will he still have the stamina to show up by round 26 and on? I need more proof to have any positive comments about this signing.

If Morts doesn't have the permanent number 6 on his back then I see better options on the bench. We can't possibly have both Mitchell and Morts on the bench. I can't see Smithy not having 3 forwards on the bench.

His utility value as a dummy half, halfback and fullback are covered with better players. I think he is the best 5/8 at the club though.

Which in turn should pressure Anasta into lifting his game or wearing a blue jersey again, only this time at Henson Park.
Problem continues next year for Morts as well though, with the arrival of Maloney.A utility role is his only likely long term option.Unfortunatly,I can only see injuries determining a regular position for Morts to slot into and then make his own.If I was him,I would be hiring an ex fullback to give me a 12 month course to fill this probable next vacant role...

Well he has all season to learn from one of the best, he seems like the type of young bloke that Mini would be glad to give time to.

I really really don't understand the signing of Daniel Mortimer. His best position is 6, he can't play 7, he's too small for 9 and he isn't a 1's bootlace. Why was he brought here with Anasta, Pearce, Friend/Mitchell and Mini the incumbents in those respective positions?

Then the brains trust go and sign Maloney from the Warriors. It's got me completely stumped. If they wanted utility value, Mitchell was doing fine as far as I'm concerned. If I were Mortimer, well, I'd be looking to go elsewhere as the Roosters isn't the place to regain the number 6 jumper unless something premature/untoward happens to Anasta AND Pearce because Anasta has the 6 now and Pearce should have it in 2013 with Maloney to wear the 7. As for positions 1 and 9, they are also well covered in 2013. I see no light at the end of the tunnel here.

Apart from the fact that he was cheap & Parra must still be paying a chunk of his wage also, I think it was a bit of a "why the hell not" signing, he's a decent young fella & deserves a chance, if he doesn't do anything it won't be a great loss, so why the hell not?!

Mate, a years a looooooong time in footy, anything could happen.

Before 2010 was even over many here had Toad and Pearceorf as Easts, NSW and the National 1/2s for the next 10yrs.

Baloney may not even come. Mini, Bwaiff, Pearceorf or even Friendly may miss most or the year injured.

I always laugh when Mullos names bandied about. Many still believe he should've been kept on for a few seasons, ignoring the cap pressures and rules at that time. The amusing thing is most of the ones who question his exit also were the most vocal about his arrival, meaning they whinged like biarches cos we signed an old useless washed-up hack.

IMO it's waaaaaaay too early to tell.

                              the time is nigh!!!

Mort's big opportunity is this weekend, Anasta unless fully fit (which he isnt) will not play. If all goes well for him & he gets a tick from Fitzy (looks asif morts is the teachers pet)...

I predict he will be No 6 round 1 with Anasta in the back row...

Mitchell will be utility on bench

I expect peeps to say lack of size will be against us, but hell, we have a MONSTER pack with able body guards.

jus need to find the team for rnd 1 thread & make my changes....
