Twenty three years of age, five major operations.
A rap sheet most people would deem justification for throwing the towel in.
Not Peni.
The horror run is finally over and the Roosters new recruit Peni Tagive has put the past behind him and is now ready to get down to what he does best, play football.
The flying winger has spent the summer putting his body through its paces and this Saturday he will finally reap the rewards when he lines up on the wing at Belmore.
“My knee is five times stronger than it has ever been and I am confident I am back to exactly where I want to be,” Tagive said.
“I have been working overtime on my body to get it in the best possible shape including putting on size in the gym.”
With a big tick in the healthy body box, Tagive has also been working on specific aspects of his on field performance, “I have really concentrated on my speed, footwork and defence in particular.”
To his credit Tagive says simply making it back to the playing field won’t be the criteria for success.
“I really just want to get out on the field and stay there and be really consistent with my performances in the top grade,” he said.
Tagive speaks with the same enthusiasm when conversation turns to his new home.
“It is a great bunch of boys and a great buzz around the place and I’m really enjoying training and forming combinations with the lads.”
Tagive will wear the number 2 jersey on Sunday afternoon.
