A reason why the bottom teams are getting thrashed every week?

I'm surprised nobody has pointed out that the crap teams are suffering because they're not being given as many leg-up penalties now. Sure, six again calls can be helpful, but they don't compare to 50 metres of easy ground (and the six tackles) that penalties offered. It's so much harder to score points if you're a crap team and you have to earn every metre. In the good ol' days, a team at the bottom of the comp often got four or five more penalties than their higher placed opponent - at least they did when they played the Roosters.

I'm sure they'll work this out soon enough and introduce another rule change. Maybe make Top 4 teams wear weighted saddles?

Its all the Roosters and Strom's fault for cheating the cap. 16 out of 21 last GF appearances by either side according to Kent Paul. Like deadset, seeing some of the pea heart performances last night from some broncos players really gets me steamed up about shit like this.

The price of a well run club and ensuing success has people off the deep end.

More energy is used in defense than attack, but yea you get a six again you are best to open the throttle to take advantage. More fatigue. Anyone would want to be on the right side of them though.

Some teams are playing a faster up tempo game and when defences cant handle it they try to slow the game down thus conceding more set restarts and penalties .

So it comes back to the defence - If your defence is slow moving and not well drilled and working as a unit then the opposition will take advantage of that and rack up the points- Visa versa if your attack is slow against a fast moving defence then your going to struggle to make yardage and score points.

Last night was an example of the above and in other games that they describe as blowouts.

Surely in today's game they have more than enough video of their opposition to know how they play and be able to come up with plans to combat the style of game plan they will encounter.

If your getting beat week after week by being dominated by your opposition then you need to look at your team , roster and the coaching staff.

The better teams don't have a myriad of game plans they bring out each week - basically play the same way week in week out - sure on the day they may find a weakness in the opposition they will exploit but they still will play the same way otherwise.

Its been interesting watching some teams when they get a recount esp late in the set. It sometimes feels like "Shoot, waddawe do now?".

Often coached to reach a certain point on the field or run a certain play sequence on the 4th, 5th and 6th tackles. I'm sure they are training more now for the advent of the arbitrary recounts though.

I guess it revolves around the 9 and 7 restarting the structure and setting the next phase of attack.

all of the above but it's only round 4 so maybe things change a bit. that said, there are a few clubs who look easy beats

The new 'speed' game (combined with less subs) means that if you're losing then you're having to do even more tackles. Also, you'll need to be extra sharp (while you're tired & losing) because refs have the power to pubish carelessness with '6 again'.

Just my opinion but I this that a ref disliking your tactics/style (or simply not being used to it) can also hurt you pretty badly as you'll end being forced back quicker than you've practiced (throwing off your game-plan/rhythm) and having to defend 15-20 more sets than your opposition. Not blaming the refs but I think they all have their quirks that teams have to adapt to. The current rules give you less scope to adapt and punish you harder if you can't adapt quickly. Bunnies game is an example... we actually won the 2nd half once we adapted but it was too late!

Eventually losing teams lose their legs (they all do), cark it and submit to ~30 minutes of Harlem Globetrotters footy from the opposition. It's a given and it's now much harder for teams to hang on because attempts to hang-on (e.g. by slowing things down a little) will result in you being punished... harshly.

There isn't enough talent in the comp and expansion is just going to make it worse. Gus mentioned the other night that since they got rid of the Under 20s national comp that a lot of clubs have stopped developing young players. Gal tried to bring up we have no juniors and Gus corrected him by pointing out whenever we have won the premierships in the last two decades it's been with a lot of young players from our junior sides.
There's also a major problem in the game with not enough playmakers coming along which is because of the domination of big Polynesian kids in junior comps .
Collisions are getting bigger and smaller kids are leaving the game. They'd rather go to the gym and get on play station rather than get run over on a footy field.
There seems to be more injuries and some of the poorer teams are really exposed with a few out.
There used to always be a chance of upsets but unless it's raining or top teams are decimated by injuries the lower teams don't look any chance of pulling off a win . I don't know the answer but lop sided results aren't good for the game.

Teams that lack depth like Manly and the cows are really struggling.

Roosters need to improve our depth over the next few yrs....we are a top heavy high risk high reward squad. We won back to back because basically we were injury free during those golden 2 yrs. Now few injuries and our depth isn't quite the standard of others.

Don't know anything about the Yankees roster but yeah some tough decisions need to be made like on Cordner for example.

We could divide his 600G on like another 300G value for money backrower and 300G for another quality prop. Not that i want Cordner gone...just some tough decisions need to be made.

I think they're already heading down that path from being that top heavy squad. With the likes of walker,lam suuali and co. The Roosters will adapt.

Yankees are the most successful team in US Baseball although they haven't been in a world series since they last won one in 2009 - they sign players for big money on long term contracts who for some reason lose all their skills overnight or on disabled lists for long periods even years and hardly play - even if they release them from the roster they have to keep paying them for the duration of the contract.

They have a payroll of over 200 million US- The highest i think in MLB- That would more than fund all NRL teams and the NRL Admin each year with money to spare

It's mainly down to the gulf in squad quality....and it can be very difficult for a club to dig themselves out of that hole once they're in it.
