  • Salary cap exemption?

Given that the NRL are considering the 18th man rule, mid season due to the high rate of injuries caused by the speed of the game, should teams who have lost key players for the season be given a salary cap exemption to replace one player? I read somewhere we are trying to get Jimmy Maloney for the rest of the season. I think it is a fair question if the NRL changes the sub rule mid season.

Not a fan of this maloney talk we need Walker in and Manu not getting bored in the centres, give him a 80minutes fare go at 5/8!
when NRL give us the exemption then bring in 2-3 young forwards extra for cover as Hutchinson an ikuvalu can cover backs an halves/ hooker

I think it could work on a percentage basis. So the earlier they do it the higher percentage

Who would help Walker our with kicking when he has 3 guys charging at him every kick? Manu isn’t a specialist kicker. We would lose so much field possession it’s not even funny.

It was just a hypothetical discussion on NRL 360 last night that Roosters could sign someone like Maloney, and find the salary cap money by way of a medical retirement for Friend or Cordner.

Maloney has since stated that there is no way he is coming back to NRL, and that the Roosters have made no attempt to contact him.

The media uses the exemption thing as a headline - we are just asking for an exemption to temporarily upgrade two bears players as we can't name 21 fit players this weekend.

And as Dice said above Maloney has said since there is no way he is coming back to NRL and he has heard nothing from the Roosters - it is just a move by the media to write headlines and give everyone fired up again to call us cheats as it will get their articles more views. It's amusing to see how fired up people are about our club getting any sort of help even when it is perfectly in the rules and regulations.

As per usual the media are reading our forum - the Maloney suggestion started here - well done all

He was quoted today as saying he is "too old".

Can't see it happening as imagine the uproar across the League and Fan base if dispensation was granted - Speculation about Maloney could have a reverse affect on the team as well as after all he will be 35- Anyway he has knocked it on the head saying he has no interest in going back to the NRL.

I understand the Chooks based their season on Keary running the show so they need to find another way and method of playing - whoever comes in has to play their way and not try to play like Keary or be expected too.

That is why teams get into trouble when they lose experienced main players as they try to play the same way and expect the replacements to replicate the way the players they are replacing play.

They need to change the way they play to accommodate these changes in team personnel and work harder as individual players and as a team - play to their strengths.

Why are we asking for salary cap relief for Cordner, when he hasn’t been deemed unfit to play?

it’s the clubs choice not to play him, so I doubt we get the compensation.

I think manu will disagree with you not having a kicking game at 5/8 !
Manu can only show us if he gets the nod like playing fullback, kicking for himself an flick pass to JWH to score!!
don't challenge Manu because Manu can do it all!
Manu wants fullback because he's in an around the ball so how about give him 5/8 and at 6,4ft defending in the middle will be much better than Lam defending in the middle!!
while all of this is going on suallii is getting fine tuned ready for the GF

Vlandys and Abdo have broken the game with this artificially fast malarkey from the new rules. I reckon record injury toll this year across the NRL

Now that Jimmy is not coming, perhaps the speculation will shift to Gareth Widdop. Unlike Maloney, he actually wants to return to Australia and play again in the NRL. Yes, he is more injury prone, but he can goal kick and the price tag might be more conducive. Let's see when this option now pops up around the traps.

NorthChook is right. All we want to do is upgrade two Bears players, but anything we do or try to do gets met with skepticism, bitterness or saltiness from the game's media, supporters and others. It is both hilarious and disturbing at the same time.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

I'm proud to announce that JT gave me a call 10 minutes ago and offered me the starting #7 jersey for Norths. I drove a hard bargain and said I'd need to be captain and be included in Easts' top 30 (including a $350k paycheque... just enough to make me able to give up my current gig at a 'boutique' law firm).

My social netball comp is reportedly fuming that the cashed up Sydney team has found money within its sombrero.

Asked about whether he was ready for the rigours of 1st grade, Jizzy reportedly said 'mate... I have been for my whole life! Sure there's been plenty of salty haters and doubters, but look where I am now - earning $350k a year to sit on the bench and do jack all. It's pretty much the sweet spot anybody wants to be in! Hard enough? Pfff... mate tonight at mixed netball some bulky tradie ran into me... so I dropped my shoulder and he went flying. All I can say is run at me bro... the Jizz Master is always ready, whether it be some juiced up tradie or one of those Burgess clones jumping outta nowhere like a ninja with the old squirrel grip... I'm ready for all of it!!!'

It sucks that Keary is done for this year. But we got that hand and we have to do the best we can with what we got. And what we got aint too shabby. Man if we jump into the 8 I'll be well pleased.

Lets give the youngers a shot and try backing them. Yeah they're gonna be raw and stuff some stuff but shoot that's the price of learning and hopefully they'll be better players into the season or next year.
Me I'm happy to go with what we got don't wanna get super desperate and try grabbing anybody.....that dont show a heap of faith in the youngers.

Whatever, that's just how I see it.
