Its honestly pretty shocking. He could end up doing a few years imo. I think he is getting a pretty rough deal. My understanding of the courtroom language was that he never actually had sex with her. I hope he appeals and wins.

Who knows mate but I think he will be put on protection. He's gonna end up in the sex offenders gaol having to do course learning to change his behaviour towards women.

He possibly may have a cell /prison mate in a Dragons player as his new trial is set to resume in April - - Haynes will be in a Minimum security gaol i suggest - Silverwater men's min security ?

I was watching a show last night about a rape allegation case in the UK and how they investigate it etc - due to lack of evidence or possibility of a conviction the UK Crown Prosecution Service didn't go ahead with the case but's it's on file if any further evidence comes to hand - apparently only 6% of all rape allegation cases that go to court end up with a conviction.

The part that gets me is the woman carrying on about the taxi and asking what he thought she was and what he thought was going to happen. He thought she was a slut that he was going to bang and never see again. In my opinion the issue of consent seems conflated with how she perceived she was being treated. Who knows? Its just conjecture on my part but it doesn't strike me a the sex crime of the century. Hayne seems very immature and unsophisticated in his dealings with women but I'm not convinced he is guilty.

He will go to gaol pending the appeal as it is very very rare people get bail once sentenced (only if your appeal is bound to succeed (rare) or you have served most of your sentence) - appeals could take a year plus from start to finish as appeals are not automatic -need to have merit - to win an appeal need to show that the trial was unfair or their has been a miscarriage of justice.

Unless his appeal can introduce new evidence to contradict her story especially on the consent question which is the main issue in this case it is very unlikely to be succeed.

Not reading all the facts of the case although a Jane or John citizen could come to the conclusion that there was an intention by both parties to engage in sexual activities but one party(The Women) changed their mind apparently because of the taxi and that they the other party in Hayne would not be staying overnight - will the Woman change her statement that it was consensual after all and commit perjury highly unlikely. The appeal will need to show there was consent.

I have met Jarryd Hayne because he played for the same Junior club East Campbelltown Eagles at one of the functions they held - team of 50 years where he was named the fullback and he seemed to me to be a nice fellow. I even joked with him he should come to the Chooks when he was playing for Parra the first time.

They cleared Hayne of two counts of aggravated sexual intercourse without consent inflicting actual bodily harm – related to bleeding the woman sustained during the incident.- that carried a 20 year sentence - 10 years non parole period min and 10 year parole period.

2 counts of sexual Intercourse without consent - he will be sent down for at least 7 years the minimum non parole period if appeal is unsuccessful - sentenced on May 6

maximum is 14 years - Minimum 7 years non parole period and 7 years parole period if released back into the community.

Agreed. He isn't a career crime with a hardened FTP kinda attitude and a drug addiction. IMO he's got enough on the outside (in terms of legitimately earned $$$ and family) to be in a position where he'll understand the value of just copping it easy and doing his time.

For those who don't know, protection... I dunno... I feel they get less freedom and you don't actually wanna be in protection if you're a career crim because they're all the wusses. Hayne though? I figure he'll just want a cell near the wusses (mostly paedos and stuff who want protection for obvious reasons) where the junkies/standover men can't get at him, some time in the gym, a bible and something useful to do (e.g. a job in the kitchen or something).

I hope people can learn from this. Not defending him but IMO if you just wanna fark some random then you should go to a brothel and set the boundaries before it all happens. That's consent and privacy made easy.
