  • Dealing with Roosters hate?

Probably a left field topic, but in a page full of Roosters, I think I’ll be able to get some good answers and advice. I love the club, I get to as many games as possible, watch as many as possible and live and breathe the Roosters 12 months a year. Yet the one thing I still struggle to shake is the hate comments, and dealing with people constantly wanting to bag out the club. I genuinely have not seen one post where there is not Roosters hate. It’s always salary cap cheats, brown paper bags, just every single bit of hate under the sun. I sometimes get so worked up reading the comments and especially when replying to them. You respond with some facts and still cop the hate. I think NRL put up a post with the score recap from yesterday, and all I saw were comments about “not playing any good teams yet”, “refs are on your side” or “you’ll win anything with Politis paying off the league”.

So I guess in simplest form is...how does everyone deal with the hate? Is it an age thing and the older I get the less it will affect me? Do you guys just not read/engage with comments anymore? Or just simply not let any of the hate affect you and bask in it? As I said, very left field but I just wanted to see what you guys do to deal with it, or even more so, why you don’t let it affect you.

    Cheers!

Personally, I just bask in the hate as it all stems from jealousy they have from comparing whatever club they follow to the professionally run successful team we have.

I usually enjoy banter and trash talk with fans of other clubs. The comments get repetitive so they're usually not all that hard to respond to. Example:
      - [Blah blah blah sombrero]... it's not our fault you dunno how to manager your $$$ properly. Last time I checked, dudes like Baker, Lussick, Fifita, Hutcho, Lam, Butcher, Liu...etc aren't on all that much anyway. You can sign 'em and see how you go!
      - [blah blah blah you have no juniors]... in this, you mean we don't have many U10's players? But, we do identify quality players aged ~14/15 and turn them into NRL stars on a regular basis. A significant portion of our club has only played for Easts. Happy to hear what portion of your team have been in your feeder systems since the age of 10. Which players are ex-Roosters? Which players did we 'poach' from you? Why didn't the said club sign them first or develop them into NRL players? Right so no club develops the majority of their players from 10 year olds into NRL players?
      - [blah blah blah refs/management always help you]... 'that's right, we intentionally concede penalties in order to get an advantage. So unfair, I know... why don't you intentionally concede penalties?'

It's simple really. I remember somebody once saying 'why bother arguing with an idiot on the internet? Even if you win, you have still just won an argument with an idiot'

If one buys a ticket to ride the internet express, one has to expect the journey to not always be a smooth one.
One has to develop thick skin like a crocodile...and laugh at the haters, not cry at their abuse.

I wore my Roosters rain jacket the other day.
            As a young man handed me an item he said to me;
"I hope your team loses this week"!
I laughed and said to him:
"You and everyone else in town"!

              I tell them that:
Theres nothing wrong with sombreros cause they keep out the sun and the blubber from jealous fans whining.
Paper bags are better for the environment and we don't use plastic cause we're not into sniffing.
Souffs wanted to get our junior clubs, and they got them.... it's their problem now.
And who doesn't like a good game of golf? Commies that's who!

My favorite hot take on that is "arguing on the internet is like winning a race in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still (I'll clean it up) disabled."

                      Haha thats true.

External its jealousy. They want what we've got.
Internal its protecting the ego. Opinions are sacred.

Seriously, the IQ of many league fans (even here) is pretty low! People take things way too seriously... I enjoy the banter and commenting and love it when the chooks are on fire, but I’m very aware that it’s a sport and in the scheme of things not very important to the quality of my life. I really think people forget this or don’t have anything else going on! But I do love an argument or stiring up the simpletons... haaaaa!
I agree with other comments, anybody could offer many of our players bigger contracts, but they don’t... any team could have picked up the Morris brothers cheap, but they didn’t! Any team could have developed a system and so many young guys that do a job, but they don’t! Roosters ain’t spending a fortune on players that do not influence the result of a game..neither do the storm and Penrith, raiders and parra etc are learning this!

when you're talking during the week to other fans i don't get hate. mind you, i'm not looking for a fight so if they want to knock us i don't care and just give a kind of lame smile and move on

You're never going to win. I used to try. The ones that hate don't want to hear the facts. And if the truth finally gets through they'll find something else to complain about. They're the sort who think the best argument is to talk louder and louder and not shut up, repeating baseless claims like a 6-year-old so you can't talk. But hey, I don't hate Manly anymore...I actually feel sorry for them and like them a bit. Wouldn't you hate for supporters of other clubs to think of the Roosters that way?
