Looks like FitzSimon has backed another loser. He's good at that.

Great news. I don't see him getting a starting spot until SOO when Teddy (and probs Toops) are unavailable

Good news but hope they dont rush it and i suspect they wont. Play him when were short when the rep games come about and if we get injuries but for me just no need to rush it

good to have the option even if we don't have to use it but with injuries and suspensions atm he's probably just one tight hammy from an outside back away from being in the team

              Agreed.

My hope is that he gets a game or two when players are out so that he has a solid run regardless of the result.

The Bears' FB page suggests he was absolutely rampant on the weekend (starved of ball and looked like scoring every time he touched it). I know it's reserve grade but he was up against men and those lower grades can be really physical (lotsa strong dudes who don't quite have the talent trying to prove themselves with big hits on anybody who's been earmarked for NRL selection).

IMO his debut will be awesome. Can't wait!!!

Smokin’ Joe is most likely to play top grade after he turns 18 in August. Allowing him to play before then allows the self entitled clubs resentment to fester.

I think he is probably one injury away from starting. We are very skinny in the backs.

Either that, or they will ease him in during a relatively soft round/game, like, say, Round 11 against the Saviour's mob or Round 14 against the Titans.

In any event, it is good news today. We will do the right thing by the young bloke. If he is good enough, he is old enough.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

I watched that north’s game mate - the face book page if its saying he was rampant is a massive exaggeration. He was solid scored one try that was catch and put down, another from a great bomb regather and dot down - I don’t remember another line break from him. Not bagging his game at all - two tries - he was solid - but rampant ....... no.....bit quiet actually but I expect that of a 17 finding his way playing men.

LOLz I'm in the office today and a manager who supports souffs was spamming me about this all yesterday.

Gonna go check if he wants to go downstairs for a latte with me later on. (Side story... he always orders a short black that's 1/4 the size of a regular one and really strong. After Souffs pulled our pants down last year [and he gave me grief] I bought a round of coffees... he got a babycino and his name was spelled using an alternative spelling that he hates... 'whoops, sorry bro').

Agreed and I'm guessing that helped with their decision. We're not some desperate club that's banking on being able to use a 17 y/o as a marquee centre/FB while screwing over his HAC plans and paying him with some miserly development contract dollars.

Rather, he's developed quickly, his focus will be on his HSC, the NRL know he's already dominating grown men in the NSW Cup and it would be great for his development if he could get a few games under his belt in 2021 as NSW Cup is a grade below where he's at so will get boring.

I am glad he is looking comfortable in his first games against men and when the time is right he will likely do well in the NRL. But people are carrying on as if he was setting the world one fire.
I am just waiting for the headline "Suaalii runs both ways in game. or Suaalii catches the ball with both hands" or journalist amazed as how his socks stay up

How Rabbitohs accidentally helped arch-rival convince NRL to grant Suaalii exemption

It’s been revealed South Sydney inadvertently helped its arch-rival Sydney Roosters convince the NRL to let teenage superstar Joseph Suaalii bend the game’s age rule.
On Monday the game’s governing body announced 17-year-old Suaalii has been granted an exemption from the rule that states a player can’t play in the top professional grade before his 18th birthday.

It took a lengthy and detailed process to reach the decision, and it all started back in August when the teen was still contracted to the Rabbitohs.
The Bunnies would ultimately lose a tug-of-war with eastern beaches rival the Roosters, who now have the gun centre at their disposal as early as Round 2.
But it was an email from Bunnies boss Blake Solly to head office that started the ball rolling on the age exemption.

Solly wrote to ARLC chairman Peter V’landys in August explaining the game could lose Suaalii to rugby union unless he was allowed to begin his NRL career in 2021.
That was when Solly was still confident Suaalii would be at his club this year, but his pitch was apparently taken into consideration when V’landys and the NRL granted exemption for the Roosters on Monday.

“Because of how special they heard this young man is. It has nothing to do with the Roosters.”
NRL boss Andrew Abdo confirmed the Rabbitohs had actually approached the governing body originally about Suaalii.
