  • SMH: "Suaalii’s $1 million-a-season demand was the last straw for Rabbitohs"

The Vermin's media arm, the Sydney Morning Herald, today published a story about how Suualii demanded a million bucks in the last year of a 5 year contract they were trying to organise. The subtext of the story is that the kid is an egomaniac and that club courageously put its foot down to reject this ungrateful pretender who "has never been tested against grown men".

The truth of the situation is that he didn't want to be tied down to any club for that period of time and I don't blame him. He's 17 and was willing to accept the Roosters lower but more flexible offer. Maybe he will go elsewhere when he know what he wants, but the Roosters are confident that he will want to stay when he sees how the their system develops young athletes.

The alternative would be to lock himself into a club that has thugs on its coaching staff and medical staff who conduct drug tests surreptitiously in dark corners of carparks.

I’m having deja vu, I feel like I’ve seen this kind of article somewhere before.

Souths losing a young gun to Easts, claiming he was asking for a million dollars... poor Souths how could they ever compete.

The lemons that come out of that club are of the highest quality, so sour.

The Zero tackle website still lists Angus as being on $1m a year, based purely on the article you quote. Politis at the time said that figure was ridiculous and was floated by Souths to justify to their fans their failure to retain him.

Today's article appeared after a number of other stories, including one that compared Suualii favourably to Greg Inglis. I suspect they need to promote a narrative that again justifies their failure to keep him.

Sorry my memory's bad... have Souffs ever convinced an Easts outside back to kick stones at bondi so that he could be released early to play for Souffs?

Hit job that only serves to show the differences between our great club and their two-bit steak-tray piece of shit.

its agents' job to get the best deal for their players - souths didn't want to pay it, that's their choice. time will tell if they were right or not but it's not crazy to think that an elite 22 year old could be worth 1m a year.

but the bottom line is you'd figure he would have stayed at souths if he was happy there

                Haha so true.

Such a shame, I used to enjoy reading the SMH back in the day when it was an actual newspaper not an online click bait portal

What a poor article, a real hatchet job. Why would JS sign a cheap contract now? If he is the talent that has been suggested he is going to worth over $1million a season within 5 years. How does that make him a bad guy? Just awful gutter journalism.

That's what this newspaper dishes up these days.

I hope that we can be proven right in the end, more than anything else just so we can get another one up on that bunch and so and so's! We back our club's greatness and culture, and the rest will be history hopefully.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.
