It's a couple of weeks away (27 Feb) but IMO it's pretty awesome having a trial at Seiffert Oval in QBN (BYO rug and picnic basket on a Saturday arvo).
I've got a special connection with the area as my uncle owned a gun shop on Thurralilly Street, right next to the Rebel's HQ (safest block in town, never any break-ins there). It was called 'the bunker' as he lived there when the banks started foreclosing on his other properties (borrowed a bit too much).
The bunker was a 1/2 way house for many souls who were in a transitional stage of their lives. The downstairs shop (closed) had a hoist so you could drop engines and stuff in there when your car went bung. It also had a decent bar. A mate who picked up abandoned cars from the council would drop 'em out the front (industrial block) so there were always a few project cars to fix and flip for an extra buck if you were hard on luck.
Upstairs were 8 bedrooms (a layout unique to its previous life as an illegal brothel), so there was always space for visitors.
Edit:
Two crazy ex's are worth noting from that era (for whatever reason this old boy's a massive playboy... I never get what attracts them)...
1. I dunno her name but one lady was given the nickname Wanda because she decided to leave a fish under her mattress when she was told to get out.
2. One occasional girlfriend (married at the time mind you) spent ~$50k on legal fees to drag him through the family court. She claimed he was a multi-millionaire and listed out an 8 bedroom house with 20 cars out the front as the prime example of his lavish lifestyle. The judge was almost convinced... until he presented a photo of a shifty looking industrial block with 20+ rusty old heaps out the front.
I look forward to watching some footy on the same street as that little property gem. This is the sorta place where footy's supposed to be played! Might even get a glimpse of Walker and Suaalii if I'm lucky?
