  • Roosters announce 3 re-signings

The Sydney Roosters are pleased to announce that Drew Hutchison, Naufahu Whyte and Tuku Hau Tapuha have signed extensions with the Club.

25-year-old Hutchison, who joined the Roosters in 2019, has signed a one-year extension for season 2021. He has played seven NRL matches for the Tricolours to date.

Prior to joining the Roosters, Hutchison who made his NRL debut with the St George Illawarra Dragons (Round 18, 2015) spent a year in England with the Leigh Centurions (2018). In 2020, Hutchison captained the Roosters’ NRL Nines team.

Hutchison combines his training commitments with study for a Bachelor of Primary Education.

“Drew’s got a lovely left footed kicking game on him, and has added some terrific depth to our squad,” said Roosters Recruitment Manager, Daniel Anderson.

“It’s been great to watch his development over the last few years and we all look forward to that continuing in 2021,” he added.

Also extending with the Club are youngsters Tuku Hau Tapuha and Naufahu Whyte.

18-year-old Whyte was named the Club’s Junior Representative Player of the Year at the Roosters’ 2020 end of season awards night, the Jack Gibson Medal. He has signed an extension to continue his development with the Roosters until the end of 2022.

Long striding edge forward Hau Tapuha, 19, enters his second season of development with the Roosters in 2021, and has extended his contract through to the end of 2022. In 2019, he represented Queensland’s 18 years team at the National Championships.

“Fahu and Tuku were invited to train within the NRL ‘bubble’ in 2020, and it was terrific to watch their growth as footballers and young men over the challenges of that season,” said Anderson.

“They’re hard workers and have really bought in to what it means to be a Rooster. We’re all looking forward to watching their continued growth over the next few seasons,” he added.

Hutch is a solid backup so it makes sense that he re-signed. I don’t know much about Whyte or Tapuha though. Does someone know more about them?

        ROOSTERS HIGH ON YOUNG HOOKER

The Roosters hold high hopes for a young hooker they are bringing in from New Zealand next season.

Benaiah Ioelu is only 16 but will come into the Roosters system, playing for the club's Harold Matthews team on the Central Coast.

Ioelu played for the Kiwis at under-16 level this year and while he is a few years off NRL level, has all the skills to make it to the top.

The youngster has been signed by the Roosters on a two-year development deal and is one for the little black books.

I am happy about most of our signings , but somehow I fear we are neglecting new blood in the front row positions, where a good strong experienced prop would add to our chances of winning the comp next year

You wouldn't want to try and repeat those names after a few ales.

The Broncos are wanting to off load Matt Lodge from the last 3 years of his contract. He is on 800k per season & the Broncos are prepared to pay half his salary for the next 3 years that means you can sign him for 400k per year, he is worth that.

Whats happened to Lucas Moretti that was the next big thing after representing Australian school boys in both League & Union.
You go & watch YouTube highlights of Moretti & he looks like a world beater & thats why I dont rate you tube highlights of young players.

the way the game is going there wont be any sense having the big boppa style forwards. You want game time not 1 off impact hitups. The speed of the game is only going to get faster and the longer guys can stay out on the field the better. The issac Luis, satilli, farmer collins etc

I hope Ray Warren is well and truly retired before the boys play firsts.

Yeah but in fairness he is getting $500k a season for 3 years. He would have been lucky to bet getting $150k with us.
