  • The 4 cowboys tries...

Just watching the replay of the match and the cowboys have scored their 4 tries.

I kept an eye on our goal line defence and came up with this.

The first cowboys try, friend rushed out too fast causing the hole in defence to allow webb to score.

second try shack was standing flat footed rather than follow burnes, cherro marked his man but was too late in reacting to cover (outside in) for shack.

3rd try, this was the Payne try from Dummy half, firstly, the defensive line was WAY TOO SPREAD out around the ruck, Payne took the ball from dummy half, threw the dummy, cherro fell for it, lopini from marker was the only person who could tackle him, but could not stop him.

4th try, BAD defensive positioning and communication, both friend and pearce were defending next to each other, friend raced to take the ball player, pearce followed the outside man, tried to change direction to take southern, but he had too much momentum for pearce to stop him.

these 4 tries show the problems in the roosters goal line defence.

they need to be aware of where they are and who is around them, if they are near the ruck, they need to be close and tight.

Communication and urgency is also Key, the 2nd try is a perfect example of this, urgency was needed by shack and communication or talk was needed by cherro to maintain the integrity of the defensive line.

so the 3 key points are:

    *Awareness of surroundings
    *Communication
    *URGENCY !!!!!

      Agree Muzz.

I have to say there are alot of kids in that side. 8 under 21 and Moualli on debut.

I guess with combos not having time to gel, its the first thing that suffers, comunication especially in defence.

Same thing with most of the titties tries the week before.

Not making excuses, just pointing out it may be the major reason why we have struggled with goal line defence of late.

At least they look like theyre having more of a go now. Enthuseasm isnt a problem with alot of youngsters, just expierence especially under pressure.

          in the side John.

          Ahern
          Friend
          Symonds
          Jones
          Cherro
          Pearce

and SKD only turned 21 this year

can't find who the 8th player was

In that side sat night mate.

The commentators mentioned it more than once.

Add to that Pezz, SKD, Soli, Maubs are only 23 at most and Moualli was on debut at 24. Even Sa and Myles arent over 23.

It was amusing listening to how many times the commentators mentioned the 4 players the cowplods had missing. I counted at least 7 blokes out of our side.

Thats why its hard to be too critical of their efforts the last few weeks, at least we are losing close games with youth, better than getting hammered with expierenced ex-rep players.

Because a lot of the young blokes seem to be standing out in a losing team.

Symonds, Jones, Nuuausala and Friend were actually some of our standouts. How many players in our current squad have played more than 3 seasons of FG?

Setaimata Sa (just - hasn't been a regular)
              Braith Anasta
              Iosia Soliola
              Craig Fitzgibbon
              Willie Mason
Lopini Paea (was not a regular till 2007)
              Sam Perrett
              Nick Kouparitsas (just)
Riley Brown (never been a regular)
              Anthony Minichiello
Shane Shackleton (was not a regular till 2007)

Defense is also attitude. We didn't let in any points in the second half, and our goal line defense was good. So maybe technique wasn't the issue, more so not using their brains. We lost concentration for 20 mins in the first half, and lost the game there and then. Much like the Titans game

Gus' analysis on the Roast about our goal line defence was pretty much what you have said Muzza......he said the effort was definitely there as they were rushing up, but players had no communication and hence no clue what the guy next to them was doing which was letting them down and making the tries look so soft. Other teams you see them pointing and shouting and stuff.......we just don't see to do it, we need a LEADER in the pack.

The Tude. You get the Tude, you can smell danger. You can feel your team mates breathing from 5 yards away in either direction. You smell blood. You become a killer. Morley had The Tude.

                          The Tude - 6th Sense.

We dont have The Tude. Hence we are lost in defence.

They are getting the tude melon, they have been showing that for the past 3 weeks, an attitude where they are wanting to work as a team.

They just need to turn it up a notch and really work for each other, the defence is the last step.

if we raise our awareness in defence, know where each other is and TALK TALK TALK, then we will win.
