  • 2021 Squad

On the back of the Morris bros and Friends signing extensions.

Looking at the recently announced squads, interesting to note a couple of things in regards to fringe players that haven't been confirmed.

Freddy Lussick is still unsigned for 2021, Drew Hutchison has resigned for a further season, Matt Ikuvalu for another 2.

We also have ALOT of the squad off contract at the end of 2021:

Fletcher Baker, Egan Butcher, Angus Crichton, Jake Friend, Drew Hutchison, Isaac Liu, Brett Morris, Josh Morris, Billy Smith, James Tedesco, Christian Tuipulotu, Daniel Tupou, Sitili Tupouniua, Sam Verrills, Sam Walker

Freddy Lussick will end up at Manly if Manly don’t get SV. It’s very surprising that he hasn’t been resigned & the of season starts in about 3 weeks doesn’t it?
Robbo rates Hutch & Ikavalu, I bet they would both be on minimal wage.
There are some big names that need to be resigned for beyond 2021.

Can't keep em all. Lussick looks a good young player, but nothing that special. Good luck to him if he stays or goes. Hutch is a cheap option as a fill, and IKU the same, will never be superstars, but both have plenty of heart and I hope they do well.

Hitchison was let go I believe? And is why we have signed that Warriors half Keighran. I could be wrong though...
        Red, White and Bluesters!!!

Lussick might be on a development contract or signed to one - i think they can have 2 now - Used to be 6

No Hutch signed a one year deal (2021)- No mention of Maxy Bailey though

I see Drew Hutchinson and Luca Moretti removed from the team website page and Sam Walker included. There are now 25 players there plus Adam Keighran to be added from the Warriors. 4 spots left!

Interesting times watching this constant merry-go-round.

I agree with NSK - you cannot keep them all, but we do need to try to strike a balance of flashy big names, middle of the road players and low cost, back up, journeyman types that will be honest, try hard, be loyal, and not be much else.

Generally, I think we are reasonably close to that. I see us keeping Drew, mainly as a member of that last category, as well as Iku, but I cannot see us keeping Lachie Lam, Freddy Lussick and Sam V. I agree that, at the very least, one of the last two will go. My clear preference would be to retain SV, as I think there is more upside to his game than Freddy's.

Regardless of what happens, it will be interesting entertainment at least for weeks to come!

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

Interesting times ahead no doubt and so ironic that it was Souffs who called time on the recent era. The youthful exuberance and athleticism of Penrith won't be replicated here obviously but our strength has beed attention to detail in everything but especially in defence. If that can be reasserted we will be hanging around in the eight but not much more I fear. From what I've seen Biwwy Smiff is not gonna effectively replace Trell (oh for Corey Allen), Keary, still excellent on his day, lacks Cooper's consistency and overall smarts and the forwards need replenishment. Everyone here seems to be counting on Vic for inspiration. We need another 2013 Napa and I don't see anyone outstanding coming through apart from Lindsay. Might Tamou want to finish up where he began?

                      8. JWH
                      9. Friend
                      10. SST
                      11. Cordner (Hopefully he can recover)
                      12. Gus
                      13. Rads

                      14. Verrils
                      15. Liu
                      16. Collins
                      17. Sitili/Butcher (I don’t see how we accommodate both in the team)

                      18. DSF/? What other specialist prop do we have since Farma went?
                      19. Hutch/Walker
                      20. B.Smith/Tuipulotu/Ikuvalu
                      21. Bailey/Baker/Lussick where is he by the way?

                      Major weaknesses

Defence was a huge let down/ Attack wasn’t bad still scored heaps of points, we need change it up evolve Lam will be good here fast feet take the line on whilst Keary sweeps around? I’m hoping we can do a clone of Melbourne’s Jarohme Hughs my word his absolutely lethal now.

Three players coming back from ACL’s two of them are in our best 17.
Lack of a outright sharpshooter I don’t know where our goals come from. SST is a part timer at best. B.Smith can kick but he isn’t even in the 13.
Moz brothers will no doubt miss some games as will Cordner, who will be seeing more game time from our reserves?
Depth in halves big one Keary goes down we’re in all sorts.

2021 starting to look a little vulnerable with many points you bring up, an unrecognised untried halfback, an ageing somewhat injury prone backline, Cordner/friend concerns, little backup.

2022 looks like our year with more room to move in the salary cap and halfback problems hopefully sorted.

Another big thing for our development players is the re-enstatement of the NSW cup and lower grade comps. Need our lads to have a run around. A few there I’m very keen to see!

Had dinner with a friend last night whose best friend is Verrills mum. She said that he apparently signed a new contract a few weeks ago. Let's see!
