  • Cordner retiring?

There seems to be a hell of a lot of calls for Cordner to retire even one to forget about the finals and retire now. from eels Fulton. My personal opinion is that he’s not as bad as everyone is making out and Robbo has been keeping him wrapped in cotton wool for the finals, whilst at the same time blooding new players which he couldn’t do with Cords in the team. Maybe the reason they are blooding new players is to replace him next year as they would be privy to any retirement plans already. But I think with age and family concerns, this may very well be his last season although I don’t see any real reason why he can’t play on considering all the rests he gets each season. But whatever us best for his health and family must come first. He’s done so much for tye Roosters, I can’t expect anymore.

There was the same noise when Keary had the head knocks. Just media being overly dramatic as usual.

Head knocks are scary but no one speaking on the topic publicly have the qualifications or inside knowledge to advise Cordner.

He doesn't need to retire but I think he'd benefit greatly in the long run if he were to miss Origin and take 4 months off after the finals.

You’re right. I shouldn’t have taken any notice of Fulton. Yes so I did. Thanks for that I’ll fix it but it’s my first heading error and it doesn’t seem to allow me to edit it Any advice?

You can’t edit thread titles. Maybe a suck up private message to Rooster 6 and he will edit the heading (or delete the thread) for you.

Fulton is as irrelevant as Latrell Mitchell around here.

Cords is resigned until the end of 2023 so the question is - how many more concussions will he receive from now until that time? Some are calling for him to change his methods and playing style but its what makes him?? The toughness of the bloke and how he plays the game is one for us to admire but does it come at a cost?

Some rubbish takes in this thread and it appears the naivety towards head injuries will be around a while yet.

I would like to make this clear: head injuries (concussion, brain trauma etc) are EXTREMELY dangerous. The short term effects are relatively well known, but little research has been conclusive on the long term effects.

What IS known, is that continuous head injuries sustained across any period of time will lead to severe degradation of the brain and complications later in life. I am not an expert in the field but I have read plenty of peer reviewed journal articles by those that are.

This is a serious issue and the health of people like Cordner and Keary absolutely need to come first. I am proud of the cautious manner in which Robbo and the rest of the coaching staff have taken in regards to resting players for multiple weeks at a time etc; but at some point absolutely, someone may need to sit down with Boyd and tell him that if he wants to live a long and healthy life he is more likely to do so if he retires sooner rather than later.
