  • Friend about to sign a 1yr contract extension

    FRIEND’S NEW DEAL

The Sydney Roosters are about to sign inspirational veteran Jake Friend on a new one-year deal.

The 30-year-old hooker has played 259 games and won three premierships for the Roosters since debuting in 2008.

He form and leadership has been outstanding all season in a team knocked around with injuries to senior players. Without Sam Verrills for most of the season, Friend has played long minutes but thrived with extra workload.

good news, I know we all hammer friendy , yep he throws the forward passes from dummy half, but his toughness and defensive work, and well timed scoot from dh, are a massive part of our success. well done friendy , well earned.

      Excellent news.

I don't want to see us lose Verrills or Lussick, but I think Friend still has plenty to offer and deserves at least another year - and hopefully a couple more after that.

I know his forward passes are annoying, but the guy almost literally died for this club once. He's a heart & soul club legend whose value to the Roosters organisation goes way beyond his on field efforts.

So let's hope he brings up at least 300 games for the club.

        Thanks fletch.
Ive got no problem with that I think he deserves a contract extension.

One more year won’t get him 300. He’s a Roosters legend regardless
              ..it’ll be interesting to see

Jake is the apex of our defensive line. Plenty of ticker. One year is fair

If he doesn't get sacked in 2009 he probably goes close to 300.

Am I the only one sceptical about this? I love Jake and he will always hold a special place in my heart as part of the 2013, 18 and 19 premierships but have you seen him playing footy this year? In games against top 8 teams he has been no less than horrid. I hope that this doesn't cost us Sammy and/or Freddy and that he ends up playing reduced minutes. Still, in Robbo we trust
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results

This is a typical Roosters life time contract.

1yr contracts until the player decides to retire.

Friendy deserves it, no doubt in the world. He’s a great story of perseverance through adversity and ultimate loyalty to his side before himself.

he hasn't been that bad, the problem is the forward passes from. dummy half, look and are lazy, he really should cut them out. other then that he has been pretty good, but as you say trust in robbo.

In his first season at the chooks, Cronk said Friend would put his head in places he would not put his feet . Pretty much sums up why he's been extended to be allowed to go on his own terms

For a man that puts his body on the line it’s a good move as much as he ****s up ( I’ll defend him forever) he makes up for it in defence and toughness and like someone mentioned earlier has earned the right to bring up 300 for our great club well done Roosters and Jake.
