Lam extends contract

The Telucrap reporting this morning that Lam has just signed a new 2 year extension. Interesting to see how this plays out between him and Flanno over the next little while. I like the energy Lam brings, his defense is solid and he runs the ball more, which helps take some heat of Keary. We missed Flanno's goal kicking last week though, which is a bit of a concern for tight finals games.

That should make JFC happy.

Lam has been with us for a while and IMO, he has developed very slowly whereas Kyle has developed much faster with us and in a situation like the Storm game when Kyle stepped up to nearly win us the game, that takes a lot of cojones. Can Lam pull a game out of the fire when needed? And then we have Sam Walker from next year....3 into 2... is a problem.

Lachie Lam has been healthy and ready to play for years as Cooper Cronk's understudy.

He started the season as Kyle Flanagan's understudy but, having been named at No. 7 again, it's clearly his jersey to lose.

"He’s a local kid and he loves the Roosters - absolutely loves the Roosters. He’s had opportunities to go but he doesn’t want to go. He wants to stay and he wants to fight for his position," Robinson said.

"We bought over the top of him in Kyle to come and do a role and that spurned him on even more. He didn’t drop his bottom lip, he simply said I’m going to work harder. He wasn’t going to wait for an opportunity. He was going to go and grasp one. And that’s what you want.

"You want really good competition but in the best interest of the team as well."

Well done to Lammy. You gotta love loyalty. I wouldn't sign for anyone else either no matter how much they paid me.
I just can't see him as our permanent halfback. I still think Flanno will get the number 7 back. We will need him for his goal kicking alone and I don't think one is better than the other as a halfback by a long shot.
But Lammy is a must as a backup dummy half.
Even when Freind retires I can see him as the number 14 backing up Verrills.

He's a quality player and the 2 year re signing speaks to that. A Spring heel Jack who was lauded by PNG in the World Cup but has had limited opportunities up to now. I hope that he emulates the Dad who was a revelation when he replaced that disastrous Alan Jones' protege (was it Brian Smith? The horror of it has left the memory blank) back in the day.

I’m not sure Lam will drop out but that’s what Sonny will bring won’t he? Other players will raise their standard because they don’t want to be dropped. Also, Sonny has his work cut out for him just to make the 17.

the salary cap's a factor but it's good to have him for another couple of years. at the very least he's an excellent back up 7. but he's the incumbent 7 atm and has the chance to make it his own.

Whilst I prefer to have Kyle back at 7, I can see Robbos tactics. He's preparing Lam in case we lose Keary OR maybe give him a game off. We wouldn't want that to have to depend on a player that hasn't played all year.
