Sounds like Kennedy has had an injury setback

judging by the news out of the Kingswood Coaching Clinic Day(thanks Phantom), big Marty isn't even back in full training from his serious foot injury sustained early last year, must be highly doubtful that he will be available for round 1 this year, this news goes against what the club said in its pre-christmas injury update.

certainly means JWH/Masoe/Tasi plus either Ailaomai/Evans/Liu will be the front row rotation for round 1, very young and raw.

I hope this injury to Big Marty doesn't end the same way as former AFL star Trent Croad who was forced to retire after the 2008 grand final victory with a very similar type of injury.

makes you wonder what really happened in regards Ryles that the club felt the need to release him with such a young team and question marks over one of its most talented front rowers.

I would not be at all surprised if Takairangi was chosen on the bench to come on exclusively as a prop. While Evans seems capable I doubt Smith would want multiple debutants lining up in round 1. Big loss though. Been waiting to see our 4 gun props all play together. I think Tasi and Kennedy alone have only played together once against the Titans and MK hasn't played since I don't think.

I really would have loved to have seen Marty ourselves and find out from the horses mouth ,but he was unavailable for the day...

Just have Cherros word, and while not happy he isnt up to running yet, I am glad he will not be available for yet another trial.....

Thanks Fletch, I would have thought he'd had enough time to get a stress fracture to heal, no matter how bad it was, guess that's why I'm no doctor! Really hope he gets it right & is able to have a big year.

Big Arty, its a lot worse than your standard stress fracture/hot spot, don't know exactly what treatment Marty has already had operation wise, but with Croad he had several surgeries to fuse the bones that were causing the problem and it never came good again, I imagine with Marty's extra bulk more significant stress would be going through the troublesome joint, unfortunately its one of those injuries that could go at any stage without warning.

The news on MK is quite concerning in light of Ryles moving to the storm. Additionally, many here are of the opinion (and Phantom knows with some certainty) that JWH would prefer to play wider and less like a battering ram as a prop which leaves the Roosters essentially with Tasi and Masoe as the only experienced front rowers available. Perhaps FPN needs to put back into the front row to replenish those stocks whilst having the added benefit of easing the log jam in the back row?

Big Arty I think it is more to do with the bone in question. From what I understand it is a small bone and once gone it is gone, it can't be repaired. In this case it didn't go that far but if they rush it too early and the bone worsens, it's gone, and so is his career.

This is very bad news. Kennedy was looking like best front rower in the game material within the next 5 years. Very similar in style to Matt Scott and look at the heights he has reached. Kennedy has the potential to be better again. A modern day Glen Lazarus. I pray he can mend and fulfil his destiny. We need him - we didn't need Riles. He was so slow and easy to tackle toward the end of last season my granny could have brought him down.

I have posted before it is a chronic foot injury. Meaning he always has discomfort. Their is no set date for his return purely because chronic injuries are a lucky dip.

In regards to Ryles I read recently that he (his management) contacted the Storm wanting to play for them. He wanted to play under Bellamy.

Can someone tell me was he contracted to us for this year but released or was his contract up?

his aside, it sort of emphasises why it would have been nice to have had jase for an extra year. if anything for depth and as an insurance policy for marty but also considering our frontrow in general is so raw and inexperienced
