  • Why Matto left the Tigers

Roosters related in terms of the way Robbo looks after his troops. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/raf...20-p55dss.html

The sources say the grievances included:
    • A disagreement over the way the club treated his recovery from a concussion
    • A belief he was pressured into playing a game just two days after being in hospital on a drip and indicating he wasn’t up for it
    • Taking exception to coach Michael Maguire questioning his toughness
    • Training sessions running over time, one of which ran 11 minutes past the scheduled finish time
    • A belief the Tigers weren’t looking after his body the way the Roosters did, forcing him to play underdone and fatigue

Maguire is very much like his mentor Bellamy in his no nonsense workaholic approach.

Difference is, I think Bellamy really does man management quite well. I don't think Maguire does - this is becoming a common issue for him. Like it is for Griffin.

You need to give people toughness, and they need to know who is boss, but they also need to know you care.

Maguire is the kind of bloke who'd be alone at training, in the dark, and in the pouring winter rain......lining up conversions into the wee small hours of the morning trying to kick at 80% before permitting himself to go home........then screaming at himself and plucking his own eyebrows for only kicking at 77%.

Sounds like a real whinger to me. Everyone finishes work late occasionally. I hope The Tigers smash him.

Madge had this reputation at Souffs too didn't he? Remember those two players who overdosed due to being on high pain medication as a result of being allegedly forced to play on with bad injuries.

Points 1 & 2 are disturbing and I'm a bit shocked at the comments on the article mocking Ryan, rather than having concern for his welfare after a concussion. Have we learned nothing from past retired players and their medical histories?

Pretty sure Maquire kept Inglis on the field with a torn ACL.

For the whole time he was at the Roosters I questioned his toughness & I believe that’s why the Roosters let him go because he wasn’t tough enough. Cords, Rads, Aubo & Crichton are tough blokes, Matto wasn’t.
The best thing that has happened to the Tigers is getting Madge to their club they are starting to understand that being a good footy team is not about how many points you score it’s about not letting the opposition get points, it’s all about defence & the Premiers every year have the 1st or 2nd best defence.

Sounds like a typical SJW whinge. These kids nowadays need to harden up.

3 of the points concerning his wellbeing are fair enough concerns.

these two are just a bit pathetic

Chooks didn't have the money to re-sign him was on 180k and had signed Crichton too - Tigers offered 450k plus a season for 3 years - plus would be possibly 4th choice backrower behind Cords/Crichton/Maubs- Butcher and Radley were in the mix too. Strange that he ended up back at Parra as Arthur dropped him to Ron Massey cup saying he would never play NRL- Chooks turned him into a regular NRL player - 3 years and 60 games including a premiership in 2018- Tigers wasn't the right fit for him and if not happy there fair enough to leave I say.

Unfortunately Matterson is at best a middle of the road bench player. I have no idea how he was 18th man for NSW. Maybe because they thought he could be a utility player like Aubo or Shaun Timmins.

Did I read somewhere that he wasn't happy about being verbally 'abused' with bad language?

You’re right on the money there 13. 11 minutes late seriously?
