Hi guys,
Listening to the Roosters Radio podcast today, they mentioned that Brian is doing it tough and that his daughter has set up a gofundme page.
As a child in the 80's, I would see Brian at the games, and his larger-than-life persona and passion for Easts was an inspiration to me. I loved standing next to him as he put a "curse" on the opposition goal kicker lining-up a conversion, clicking two wooden rods covered in indigenous art.
I remember another time standing at a bus stop after a game at Leichhardt and a dickhead Tigers' fan went after him, punching him in the head. That was a very sad moment as Brian was not an antagonist as I saw it.
Later in life, undeterred by his old legs he would travel by public transport from Campbelltown to watch Easts at the SFS (that's what he told me, anyway).
A genuine legend. Our Laurie Nichols.
Dig deep if you can.
Here's the blurb from the page:

Our original Roosterman Brian Cooley is very ill. Brian’s daughter Jess and family are caring for Brian full time. Brian’s dementia is worsening and the emotional and financial toll on the family is immense. Brian has been the heart and soul of Easts for 50 years - it’s time to help Brian and his family in their time of need.
