POLICE have interviewed Penrith utility Yileen "Buddy" Gordon about a hit-and-run car accident involving two teammates that has placed his NRL career in jeopardy.
The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Gordon was driving unlicensed last Saturday morning and hit a parked vehicle on Lethbridge St in Penrith about 10.40am.

He had three passengers in the car, including promising Kiwi hooker Nafe Seluini and young prop Brendon Gibb, who owned the Holden Commodore. It is believed Gordon was driving them to a friend's house after they spent the previous evening drinking.

Police allege the Rabbitohs junior was driving "erratically" when the accident occurred and that all four fled the scene immediately.

The three passengers were tracked down nearby a short time later but Gordon did not present himself at Penrith police station until the following morning.

Panthers general manager Phil Gould yesterday confirmed the 24-year-old would be "stood down indefinitely" from pre-season training until investigations were complete.

Seluini has been reprimanded while Gibb last week asked for a release to return to his family in Queensland.

"Buddy is extremely remorseful and apologetic and is totally understanding of the action the club has taken," Gould said. "It's disappointing because this was an opportunity for Buddy to resurrect his career. He had been training very strongly with the rehab squad after suffering a groin injury."

Police visited CUA Stadium on Tuesday to make further inquiries but no charges have been laid yet. A police spokeswoman yesterday said Gordon could still be served with a court attendance notice.

Gould said he intended to use the incident as a wake-up call to the entire Panthers playing squad, across the grades, about safe driving.

    Hmmm wakeup about safe driving...
IMO it's more a wakeup about "not doing dumb illegal things... including driving illegally..."

    Safe driving is more:
    - "don't speed over x-mas"
    - "don't get frustrated when people tail you and flash you with those farking massive LEDs because you refuse to speed"
    - "check how many drinks you've had after drinking responsibly, but potentially over the limit by 0.01 or so.

How many 'footballing' chances is this kid going to get. Forget the driving charges, the kid continually plays overweight and unfit. You only have to see him running around in the JB Cup to see that he does not train hard enough. He is one of those players that has been given the skill and physique, but is too lazy to use it to his advantage. Hence he has always been plagued by injuries such as groin, due to his weight. Will always be a reserve grader because of his attitude.
