To be fair, SKD, Anasta and Myles had their moments.
        I'd replace them as follows

        1. Jordan Tansey
        4. Ryan Williamson
        11. Shane Shackleton

Give the captaincy to Jackson Hastings. He's the best man for the job. Just ask him.

Some wonderful memories in in those lists of names. Cronk, of course, the standout for the courage, cool headedness and the strategic brilliance that he brought. There is now I feel a post Cronk deflation in the side that's worse than a Grand Final hangover and I feel for Flanagan or anyone else who might be in line to succeed him. IMO, Cleary is the only current young guy who plays with cool headed maturity far beyond his years. There are a few honourable mentions of halfbacks from yesteryear in these lists but none with Cooper's cred.

I agree that the post Cronk deflation could be a thing like the post Freddie era. The difference possibly being that we didn't rely on Cronk as much as we relied on Fittler... however replacing a legend with a kid is a massive change on the back of a back to back hang over with minimal new blood. Maybe JMoz might spark the fire that might be missing..an old respected head coming in desperate to win a comp might be the recipe Trent needs?
On the back of the Covid break I wonder how many would have been happy to not play this year? Not assuming anything here, just curious. They all have achieved so much. Although the short sharp season might be the recipe to lay all out on the table and make history again!

When you put Cronk in the League of irreplaceable which he is you just know the Chooks cant win the comp this year. The Roosters have never had a play maker who could read the game & make the right decision under the pump like Cronk did. Better than Freddy.
I know they can make the 8 but I dont think they will make the GF.

Agree. I was very worried about that leading into the season. Flanagan needs time - more than just this season - to find himself in top grade.
And There was always going to be a 'deflation', the question was going to be 'how much'.

It's hard to read too much into 2 games, but one thing that was very evident in particular in the Manly game was a lack of direction and leadership. You could really feel Cronk's absence in that match, not to mention Cordner wasn't on the park either.

I think Cleary was 100% a must get for the right price for a halfback of his experience and performance - about $600k a season. Anything around $1 million is irresponsible use of the cap, and i'm glad we didnt go down that path. Still, a Keary-Cleary combo would really complement each other really well.

There is no doubting his extraodinary skills and talents. but i don't think Keary is an effective leader or an effective talker.

Agree. I have us around 4th or 5th and i don't think we'll make the big dance.

The Penrith game too showed that if you're not confident that everything is under control in the middle then your focus can drift (it never seemed to last year) and the Kikaus of the comp take advantage. He is a handful mind you, gotta be better, or at least as good as, any of the young Broncs.

I wouldn't judge anything on the first couple of rounds... The roosters haven't gone in to the season with all funds bkazing for a few years now especially with the word club challenge. I think they're success is partially on there back of how they manage the season and player workload. No trials for most there top 17 for a couple of years etc. Hence why they were arguing about starting the season again with no points!

Penrith were ready and up for it after a terrible 2019 and areas a good team, yet we almost got away with it at their home ground.

And if Keary is more switched on against Manly.... We aren't that bad... Looking forward to see how it unfolds.

Pretty hard even as a fan to worry if you flounder after you go back to back!
