It's an interesting debate anyway. I concede that my wingers could have kept the same surnames and swapped Blake and Bill as first names!

      Jack,

      How dare you exclude Toops!

3 Premierships and currently the world's best winger on form.

Brett was incredible at the end of 2002 but Toops is now a genuine club legend.

I agonized over leaving him and Mini out mate. I looked at it as those players at their top, even if it wasn't with us. Not sure if that was the intent, or just their form with our club. Hence why I gave Mullos a gig. As I said before it's a great discussion topic.

Toups is a legend yes now for us.

It might be more edifying to nominate 17s pre and post the Six Tackle rule. The old game was fundamentally different in many ways, body shapes have changed in various position as have most positional roles and the demands on stamina are, pretty much incomparable as well (that's why we have 17 these days - the 10 Meter Rule which results in contacts far more forceful than when defences were set level with the ruck, not to mention the speed of the play). It's entirely probable that some of the greats of yesteryear, whom many have mentioned here, would have been stars today but they played back then so it's an apples and oranges thing.
I digress slightly but those Late Night Legends games that used to air on Fox (I've long since cancelled my subscription) were almost unwatchable - stop/start, unlimited possession provided the ball was held onto a la Union and contested scrums that might have been set 3 or 4 times. There were, however, a few very appealing and exciting features that we'll never see again, Fullback kicking duels for field position were enthralling and could go on for ten kicks or so each Fullback surrounded by a ring of temporarily offside defenders. A fumble, though fairly rare, would decide things or, more usually one would be forced back into the 25 red zone and be compelled to run it. On the whole though, thems weren't the days.
