Sydney Roosters star Boyd Cordner is likely to miss Round 2 as well as the club’s staff manage his workload ahead of another gruelling NRL season.
Cordner sat out the World Club Challenge and will miss the Tricolours’ season opener on Saturday against Penrith leading to concerns he was battling a mystery injury.
But Fox Sports’ chief NRL reporter James Hooper confirmed the backrower would soon return to the field.
“I spoke to Roosters coach Trent Robinson today and he said there are no ducks and drakes,” Hooper told NRL 360 on Fox League.
“He hasn’t had a proper pre-season dating back to 2016.
“If you go back to last year, particularly during the representative period, he had some soft tissue injuries, specifically some calf problems.
“So I think there was a view among the Roosters’ high performance staff that the best way to get Boyd Cordner’s body battle-hardened for a hell of a long NRL season and arduous representative season – you’ve got Origin and a Kangaroo Tour at the end of the season – was to give him a proper pre-season now.
“I don’t think he’s going to play next weekend either against Manly. I don’t he’ll be back until Round 3 against the Bunnies.”
