  • Rating the Competition

    1. Who is the biggest threat?
    2. Order of strongest to weakest teams.

For me it’s the Storm the only team that can go set for set with us in Attack or Defence.
And in order of strongest to weakest.
    1. Easts
    2. Melbourne
    3. Manly
    4. Canberra
    5. Parra
    6. Vermin
    7. Brisbane
    8. Newcastle
    9. Cronulla
    10. Canterbury
    11. Nth Queensland
    12. New Zealand
    13. Penrith
    14. Gold Coast
    15. St. George Illawarra

I'd say very close. Canterbury or Cronulla could oust the Knights.

Not that I can prove it, but I picked the eight last year. I don't know why the so-called experts were surprised by Manly and Parra. They both showed their potential the previous year. They reckoned EVERYONE had Newcastle and St Merge in their eights, too.

Yeah I was thinking Canterbury in 8th solely on the back of the defence they showed those last 8 weeks ( however they can barely manage to score enough points to win the Knights don’t have that problem) in comparison to the leakiest defence of the Knights (O’Brien should have that shored up somewhat).

Really hard to pick. I'd say only a team from that top seven will produce the premiers.

Raiders Rabbits Storm Manly are the threats if luck & injury go there way.

              Roosters
              Raiders
              Rabbits
              Storm
              Manly
Forget the rest only 1 of those teams will win it & it wont be Souths. Doggies will make the 8.

I recall that this time last year many on here were rating Paramatta as a top eight or even top four side. I commented that they had the worst pack in the comp and were no chance for the top 8. I was wrong.

I think they have recruited well with RCG and Matto. They are very hard to beat at home. I think they will be up there as a minor premiership contender.

                Parra
                Melbourne
                Roosters
                Manly
                Canberra
                Souths
                Brisbane
                Newcastle

I don’t expect us to win the minor premiership cause we have a new half and it may take a little while to find our groove. Plus we have a very tough draw and only 10 games at the SCG and a high involvement in origin.

                Premiers: ROOSTERS

Melbourne, Manly, Canberra and the eels probably will be our most significant threats. I don't thinks souffs have the forward to really be much of a threat

The Rabbits always have a couple of great metre eaters on the field who pick off 40m gains from their own end half a dozen times a game - their names are Referee.

Unfortunately these guys tend to have quieter games in the finals (a bit like Damien Cook) so their actual forward pack kinda look shell shocked when they have to work for their yardage far more often.

The only positive to the refs blatant favouritism of Souffs and their blatant dislike of us, is that it weakens them when the going gets tough, but battle hardens our boys at the same time.

Wait, how did I get onto talking about the refs? It must mean the season is getting closer!

As for our competition, I feel Manly's chances hinge entirely on that fruit loop Manase Fainu's court case. He ignites their middle 3rd. They'd be a lot less dangerous without him, given Koroisau was released.

So I'd say our biggest threats in order are:

                        1. Raiders
                        2. Storm
                        3. Rabbits
                        4. Eels
                        5. Manly

I don't think anyone else can win the comp beyond these 5 and of course us.

The gap between the top 6 may be so small that the winner may be the team that gets a rails run all season with injuries, ala Penrith 2003, Tigers 2005 or Cowboys 2015 where every spine player played basically every minute.

I could totally see the Eels pulling a 2005 Tigers if Gutho, Brown, Moses and Mahoney all play 20+ games - winning the comp as a one season wonder before disappearing back into mediocrity.

Could there be a late bolter like the Broncos? Very unlikely imo as they're all show but zero grit and the coach is a complete mung bean.

I'll do my full prediction just prior to season commencement.

From what i can see based on the current climate (in no particular order)

                          CONTENDERS:
                          Sea eagles
                          Roosters
                          Storm
                          Eels
                          Vermin
                          Raiders
                          Knights
                          Broncos

                          PRETENDERS:
                          the Tits
                          Cowboys
                          Sharks
                          Tigers
                          Warriors
                          Dragqueens
                          Bulldogs
Panthers (my prediction for the spoon. Their squad looks atrocious this year. Cleary senior is lucky he has a further 4 years on his contract, because i have a feeling both himself and Cleary junior will get savaged this year)
