Goes to the line with ball in two hands and great at slipping pass or making a sneaky break. Spoke to Mortimer and said the guys are focusing on skill work..much more than his time at Parra. Also a huge focus on defence and as Smith said..putting both all together. No changes in playing style next year..we will see what we saw in the last four games.

At least John Simon was kept on the bench by Adrian Lam.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
We can't keep bashing into 3 man gang tackles and expect to get quick play the balls.
So, you need to try something different.
IF you are able to offload close to, or in the defensive line, or play a hole runner at the line, and you only need to do it once a set, to get a 1, or at worst 2 man tackle.
You are then setting up the next 1 or 2 plays, for quick play the ball.
This is what 'it looked like' they were trying to do during the last 4 weeks of 2011.
This style of play suits Pearce, Anasta, Friend and Mortimer, ie they are all prepared to go to the line, and get belted, to try and put the runner through a hole.
It also suits ballplaying backrowers, eg Thaiday and Stewart, so hopefully Taka, FPN or even Cherro can step up as the year progresses, that is, if Anasta lets someone else run down the blind-side.

                  Thanks for that!

I'm suprised how it's only Moga, Carney and Tagive that are fighting for the 1 spot left in the backline. What about Adam Henry?

I hope Daniel doesn't get too used to wearing the tricolours, he won't want to stick around behind those two putzs.
Where do people keep getting the misconceived idea from that Mortimer is a half back. Mortimer has played very little football at half back in his entire career. When he was in juniors at Orange he played 5/8th...when he went to Parra and started playing 20's, he played 5/8th with Keating at half back....when he came into first grade he played 5/8th. The only time he has played half back for an extended period was in 2010 and he and his team struggled big time. He's not an organiser and never will be, and he's not a half back and never will be.

                        Great report farian

Always thought Smith would have issues with Wells size, he's never been a fan of small fullbacks. Glad to here he can see past it all though because he's all class, I'm a little worried about his competency under the high ball and in defence but he's got all the skills in attack. Reckon he'll end up as a 5/8 at some point in his career.

I too am surprised Smithy didn't mention Adam Henry.

He did point to Henry and say that when he showed up for training, he was surprised at how big he actually was.

Also remember boys. Training has JUST started. Someone will impress during the next few months with attitude to training and general committment and that may well change Smith's mind. It's early days (thats why I liked the January clinic better because it was at the end of the pre-season training).

All the posts about Stewart or any other fullback purchase. Forgot it as it wont be happening! Smith reiterated that we have a massive supply of fullbacks coming through with great potential. As I mentioned, halves MAY be the only position he'll sure up.

I could never understand why Simon wasn't used. He was a brilliant natural who brought Stuart to the boil by
                                outplaying him.
Saw him a few weeks ago. He is a bit bigger now....
Didn't know anyone could go to the coaching clinic as an observer. Thought it was for kids only.
I'll go next time....only live 15 mins away.
Thanks for the info....some is a bit worrying.
