I've always been a fan of Shortall. For a little bloke he's always very assertive and doesn't come off as a total wanker like Archer. He's also very calm throughout games unlike that idiot Robinson who looks like he's got a gun to his head most of the time. I think by the end of the year he'll be considered one of the tops refs.

The stats never reveal the true picture.

      * You could lose 4 games under a certain referee but still win the penalty count under him.

      * You could win 7 games with one particular ref but find you lost the penalty count in 5 of those matches.

      * It also doesn't show you the team you played. If you're the number 5 team playing the number 1 team then you will probably lose the penalty count as they would most likely be a very diciplined team. If you play them 3 times you may lose 3 penalty counts and 5 v 1 will most likely have the same ref as the best ref usually gets awarded the top game. Therefore the stats will read that you lost 3 matches under the same ref.

You can't read much into refereeing stats.

        It shows we are ill-disciplined.

I believe Cecchin works better with the team.

I think we can make certain assumptions if I go a little deeper into the analysis.

        Standby General.

In our run of wins between round 23 - 26
We lost the penalty count 3 times
Robinson was the ref twice during that time, won 1 (10-7), loss 1 (4-5)

          Our biggest penalty count against
Away loss to Melbourne Storm in R14 - We were hammered in the count 9-3 (we lost 21-4)

          In our 10 wins
          won 5, loss 4, draw 1
best win count 7-2 Vs Bulldogs r21, worst loss count 6-9 Vs Rabbitohs r1

          Main referee when we won
          Archer - 2
          Cecchin - 2
          Cummins - 2
          Robinson - 3
          Lyons - 1

          2nd referee when we won
          Shortall - 4
Devcich, Perenara, Haines, Sutton, Gee, Atkins - 1

We had 4 wins against top 8 opposition

            Vs Tigers r4 - draw 7-7
            Vs Warriors r13 - won 8-7
            Vs Dragons r23 - loss 6-7
            Vs Storm r26 - won 10-7

I think it shows if you get a fair rub of the green, it enhances your chances of winning.

              Two things:

              1. I believe you make your own luck (which indirectly affects penalties)
              2. WALL-E you have way too much time on your hands.

                  2. Lol Agreed.

Here are some sayings you may like -

                  A) Statistics are like lampposts: they are good to lean on, but they don't shed much light
                  B) There are two kinds of statistics, the kind you look up, and the kind you make up
                  C) Not everything that can be counted counts; and not everything that counts can be counted
                  D) If you want to inspire confidence, give plenty of statistics. It does not matter that they should be accurate, or even intelligible, as long as there is enough of them.

Wall for years we have been the most penalised team in the comp, don't know why? Its just seams to be the way?? Generally teams get a 60/40 count we are no where near it.????????????????
