No news of moves or changes to roster can even come close to dampening just how awesome and special it is to go B2B. The character in this team is phenomenal. Cronk playing with a broken scapular had us 12vs13 yet we still easily beat the storm and again Cronk wrongfully sin binned had us again playing 12 on 13 yet still on character we come away with the bikkies!
I never expected to win in 2018 with Cronk’s injury let alone ever thought we’d go b2b! Even with wrong calls against us such as not getting a penalty for the high tackle on Keary or the raider’s knock on, we still showed character. The part I enjoyed most about our win was not our defense or the winning try but the fact that when the game ended we were all laying on the ground almost unable to stand to celebrate! We had made such a super human effort we struggled to even stand up after the game. That epitomised for me the 500% effort ,the boys had put in. They gave their all as well as what they had in reserve and then had to call on sheer character alone to get them across the line.
For me this is the best rooster side I have ever seen in my life even in comparison to the days of Jack Gibson. I first began following Easts in 1966 when they didn’t win a game. To me nothing can dampen what we just achieved and I’m still so, so proud and over the moon about these boys. I don’t expect another premiership but boy we were the team of the decade and that’s an enormous achievement to be proud of for a long, long time to come.
