  • What’s the go with Lachlan Lam??

    1
    Long-term plans
Lachlan Lam’s withdrawal from the Papua New Guinea squad is a big blow to the Kumuls’ chances in this weekend’s World Nines.

The official line is that Lam pulled out through injury but I’m hearing there is more to it than that.

The youngster - son of former Roosters favourite and current Wigan coach Adrian Lam - has his eyes on the retired Cooper Cronk’s number seven jumper at the tricolours next season.

But the Roosters’ decision to sign promising Kyle Flanagan from Cronulla is a major blow to Lam’s hopes and he has decided to work hard all off-season in his bid to get the spot - and running around in the Nines didn’t fit into those plans.

I thought he was desperately unlucky to get injured at the wrong time last year. He never got a chance to really show us what he's got. If that's the reason he withdrew from the Kumuls (doesn't sound likely, but anyway) then great. Flanagan's performance in the NRL is probably above Lam's at this stage, but a bit of competition won't hurt.

If Latrell stays on for 2020 (which I believe is no chance of happening) I would give Lam first crack at half back but if Latrell stays then I would go with Flanagan because he kicks goals.

What’s the difference between the first “ if Lattrell stays “ and the second “ if Lattrell stays”

Lack of a goal kicking option without Latrell I'm guessing

Be interesting to see what happens if it's truely a 2 horse race.

IMO one of Robbo's strengths is that he expects players to train as if they're 1 injury or 1 slack performance away from playing 1st grade and he's not afraid to sack players for underperformance.

My hope is Flanno's a few steps up from Lam. Pretty sure Robbo will let us all know if he isn't.

Given how big a loss Keary would be if he's injured, it'd be great if they could push each other to greater heights.

Lack of experience in the 7 if we start the season bad may tempt Robbo to use keary at half . Then maybe latrell gets the 6. Is Flanagan that good he's just going to walk in and replace cc

While I think Flanagan is probably a better chance of starting, quite frankly I don't care who it is, as long as the team is selected on form and our chances of winning are maximised! The goal kicking aspect of Kyle would have to put him in the box seat, but you never know. The competition can only be a good thing: not just for the two players in question, but for the overall team.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

I'm willing to put a Lottery ticket on Latrell never playing 6 for the Roosters again , except maybe the bears.
And that's would be a long shot.

                      With Cronk as mentor
either Lam or Flanno will be ready to fill the gap

It should have been "If Latrell stays on for 2020 (which I believe is no chance of happening) I would give Lam first crack at half back but if Latrell leaves then I would go with Flanagan because he kicks goals."

Lam jnr needs to work on passing instead of throwing a dummy and butchering scoring opportunities.

He has s long way to go yet.

The World Cup 9’s?? They were two months ago!! trewhella

Anyway, if he did, good on him. It’s what he should do.

Why lay out the welcome mat for Flanagan?

                              Lams a better defender
