Long-term plans
Lachlan Lam’s withdrawal from the Papua New Guinea squad is a big blow to the Kumuls’ chances in this weekend’s World Nines.
The official line is that Lam pulled out through injury but I’m hearing there is more to it than that.
The youngster - son of former Roosters favourite and current Wigan coach Adrian Lam - has his eyes on the retired Cooper Cronk’s number seven jumper at the tricolours next season.
But the Roosters’ decision to sign promising Kyle Flanagan from Cronulla is a major blow to Lam’s hopes and he has decided to work hard all off-season in his bid to get the spot - and running around in the Nines didn’t fit into those plans.
