This thread inspired me to watch the second half again on replay to see if Angus played as well as I remembered. The short answer is better.

Angus was easily the best player of the second half and this was definitely his best game all year. His 2 line breaks from our own half were massive and the second break off Cronk ultimately led to Teddy’s winning try. His pass back to Cronk was tricky but he threw it perfectly and showed great skill. On the other side, Angus, was making great and at times very important tackles. His defence was really strong at a time when his teammates were starting to flag.

The next 2 best players from the second half were Toupo and Cronk. These 2 blokes alone made 3 absolute one on one try saving tackles in the one set. Cronk saves 2 in a row on his right side and then Storm spread to our left for the overlap and Toupo makes a critical shut down. This happens with 19 minutes to go and the scores at 8-6 and Storm with all of the ball and momentum.

Apart from their D, Toupo was safe as houses on kicks, try assist and strong carries. My man of the match.

Cronk makes the game winning play with rush down the right and back up. He was even underneath big Nelson when he was steam rolled for the Storms try, Cronk might be short in size but will never be short in heart.

Other points of note, I felt sorry for Joey Manu not getting his match winning moment when the ball glances Teddy’s thumb, Manu’s D on Munster and Olem was awesome, always made the right decisions. Also, felt sorry for Nat Butcher getting pinged for that penalty. Butcher was 100% at marker but steps out to the side a fraction earlier than maybe he should have.

Finally, I thought Storm were brave opponents and I have a lot of respect for their efforts in the second half when they were down on troops but still really giving it to the Roosters. Special mention to Brandon Smith who was immense.

    Go Chooks!

No.... he doesn't. He is being used perfectly and going great. Coming on and creating a difference, not bashing it up at the start. Horses for courses.

Sure he could hit holes and run great lines. But now he is a worker and much more valuable
            Part of the “cleansing” process!!

              Great post. Nailed it all.

Cronk made an incredible one on one try saver around the legs of Olam. And then he goes up the other end and in tandem with Angus sets up the game winner.

The Storm played like champions in that 2nd half but we somehow repelled them. Brandon Smith and big Nelson were monsters.

What an incredible effort from our boys. And Cronk led the way. That's 2 Prelims I believe we would have lost if the badge kisser was in his place at halfback.

I never appreciated what a great player Cronk was until watching him weekly in tri-colours for the last 2 years. Apart from his composure and game management I never realised what a freak defender he is, perfect technique and always looking to cover his teammates. He saved the Roosters bacon last night, that’s for sure.

Any other halfback produces the defence and attack Cronk did last night would win man of the match.....its just expected with him these days.

Really hits home why QLD had that decade of glory- Thurston and Cronk in halves- bloody hell NSW had no hope
