  • Home game to be transferred to the SCG in 2012

    Received an email:

To celebrate our Club’s history we have forwarded a request to the NRL to play one home game at the SCG in 2012. This game will be included in ALL Ultimate, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Membership packages. Once the NRL release the 2012 draw, confirmation of the game schedule will be provided. ARE YOU IN?

    NO!

In theory a great idea but as we saw last season the SCG is not a great place to watch an NRL match. Certainly on TV anyway the shadows across the ground make it difficult to focus on the match and the playing field is a long way from the fences.

It's a barely tolerable ground to watch Cricket let alone League. But that's what tv is for.

Shit place to watch a game from!

I didn't mind it last year though because the old man and i managed to sneak into the members bar.

I stood at the door and looked down the stairs where some legendary Australian cricketer's have walked down......Was pretty awesome!

Having watched the last year Sydney's test from the Members, I know what you mean. It was like the quickening.

            100% correct.

Stop taking home games away from the SFS!

I was looking at the draft for the upgrade for the SFS. Looks like a lot of work with the new roof etc. They want it finished by 2013 for the 25th anniversary. Hope they can finish it in the off season so they don't move any more games in 2013. The SFS is by far the best ground to watch footy from IMO.

I looked forward to last year's game at the SCG. Knew it would bring back many wonderful memories but I have had my fix for
                the rest of my life.
The SFS is the best venue for League.

Same for me Maggie. The SCG has something magical about it. Great memories both footy and the cricket. I remember sitting on the hill watching Australia play the West Indies in a one dayer and getting hit in the head with a barbeque chook. Hmmm those were the days lol

I remember when I used to go with my brothers, Dad and Pop.
Us youngsters would sit in the lower section of the M.A. Noble stand which formed part of the members.
When play went toward the south east corner of the field near the old score board, the players legs would disappear from sight due to the mound the cricket pitch was on.

Not the best place to watch the game from, but loved the ground and the atmosphere of the members. My Pop knew a lot of great sportsmen, he introduces me to Dally Messenger once, didn't wash my hand for a week.
