Rooster85, can't agree with you on Takairangi. He's certainly not fittest bloke in the side but of all our current backrowers I think he creates the most tries. That's pretty good impact if you ask me. He has great footwork for a 108kg forward, this makes his offloading ability even more effective. His size draws a lot of defenders and he's one of those players that looks like they could offload every run if they wanted to. After seeing him do all this for Newtown in the first half of 2011 when he got his call up against Canberra I posted that he would give us plenty of impact, but the thing that has surprised me most is his passion during games. This is definitely something that is undervalued and he shows plenty of it. Watch him whenever the opposition scores, he's more pissed off than any player on the field no matter what, if any, part he played in the conceding of the try. Likewise when we score he is the first to run up and hug the tryscorer. It's refreshing to see that we have players that truly care in our side. For mine it's little things like this that go towards how a player is judged. With a full pre season and the inevitable injuries that occur throughout the season I think you'll see him as a very valuable part of this side come the end of the year.

Looking at our roster I reckon we'll play a real field position game, Smithy could surprise me but I reckon he'll pick Henry on the wing and Leilua in the centres for some muscle and go forward out of our own on end on kick returns.
The middle 3 will be Ryles/Kennedy/JWH with Masoe & Tasi as the benchies.
Cordner will be the secondrower on the bench who can also cover lock when JWH needs a rest. Although I see Smitty picking FPN in this role.
Guerra and Maubs will be our second rowers, both run good lines... Maubs a great defender and Guerra a great reliever in taking work off the props.
I think it's a well balanced pack and has plenty of depth.
Aliomai & Evans will cover the props.
FPN & Bosden will cover the role of Cordner i.e being able to play at lock and the second row off the bench.
Symonds, Takarangi & Cherrington will cover the secondrowers.
Dumbrell would be my pick for the dummy half off the bench too, better running game and provides better service than Mitchell whilst still being just as good in defence. Unlike Mitchell who I feel is just there in case of injury and to relieve Friend Dumbrell could become a massive part of what we do this season.

If we are going to buy "big names" then we need to make sure it is the right player.Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

He has filled in a few times due to in-game injuries and re shuffle, but he has no creativity, no passing and no kicking game.I do like him as a player and think he has a good future in the game, but he is NOT a 5/8. Bwaiff is a better choice at 6, without a doubt.
Bwaiff doesnt exactly have any of these attributes either at least Henry would trouble the line.
You are correct in saying I dont watch alot of 20s but what I have seen of Henry he would handle 5/8 well.

I noticed a lot of people have henry playing at various different positions in there teams (fback, wing, centre, 5/8)... would he ever be considered for that utility bench spot that everyone has mitchell at???
but i think smith will keep his favourites... ala fpn at lock and a few others... I also think moga won't start the year in 1st grade... if he does debut next year won't be until later in the year (barring injury of course)... I also want to see cherrington actually play some footy... just to see if he has the ability everyone thinks he does... and finally the main thing the team needs to work on is effective offloading... since we don't seem to have set players or many decoy runners our team (which does actually have good line runners) would really benefit from 2nd phase play

Do like the look of the backline without Mini though.

He brings the same sort of impact as Feliti Mateo or Anthony Tupou. When creativity in the halves is an issue (especially when attacking the around the tryline), this type of impact is important.
My backrow would be:
11. Maubs
12. Guerra
13. JWH
17. Takairangi
Cordner would be first reserve. FPN would be playing for Newtown.
No more bludgers in the backrow - please!Last edited by Fleabag Fletch; 10-11-2011, 02:59 PM.
