I don't like how they trotted her out for an interview. I can't remember any other ref being interviewed before their first game and I hardly remember any refs being interviewed at all.

As long as it's a merit promotion I am happy about it.

Refs aren't cops, but when female cops became more common it changed policing a bit.

I think you'll find women and girls have XX chromosomes. (Though we've had a few XY girls playing in our pack from time to time.)

Interesting when they asked James Graham on 360 the other night as to the title he would use when speaking to a female referee and he said 'Sir' because that has been ingrained in him since he was 8 years of age. I'm sure a lot of other players will probably do the same.

I have had heaps of women referees playing touch footy and almost always called them "Sir"....an automatic learned response. Always felt silly and completely get what Jammer is saying.

I'm delighted for Belinda Sharpe to get a top level whistleblower gig this weekend.

There have been women touch footy refs and other elite sport female referees for quite a while.

But it's an 80 minute haul of the most sustained physical team sport on the planet.

I was sort of watching Belinda a bit closer than other refs last night to see how she went.

What I did notice was the role of that "pocket" referee. They're more a bloody coach! Calling players by name to do this, don't do that in every ruck.

That shouldn't be the job of the referees. When/how did this all change?

I reckon she’s hot. If she was wearing a bikini while on field it would really bring the crowds back. No matter what she does I won’t abuse her.
