  • Trents try analysis on Sky TV

Just watched Trent analyse the tries from the WCC on Sky Sports.

Ive seen him do this before and it must be a regular thing for coaches and players to do post match but geez it’s good to see.

Just shows how backward the NRL is, coaches would never agree to do that here. I know they get ex players to do it.. but to get it from the coach is really good to see.

    Bravo Sky.
Trent Robinson dissects the key moments from his team's World Club Challenge win over Wigan Warriors.
    ..it’ll be interesting to see

Yeah, there's no doubt he's pretty cluey.

But, tbh, I wouldn't mind if we kept our cards tighter to our chest. Robbo makes himself available to the media, fulfilling his job of promoting the game - and that's great and necessary - but I wouldn't mind if he was just a couple per cent less trusting. Just fine tuned it a little. If the media puffs you up, other sections of the media will try to bring you down.

Do they do this on a regular basis or is it just for the exhibition?

Generally the analysis is along the lines of 'half saw a mismatch on the left did a cutout pass to the left, centre tried his best to draw in lotsa players and then passed to the winger who scored... isn't it amazing how the definition of an overlap changes when it's professional footy? Professionals these days are so strong and fast ay? Yep fo shizzle...'.

Guessing there's more appetite for this kinda thing when the analysis is 'looool hahahha!!! Yeah um. Morris is NOT our left centre and we totally weren't expecting to score on tackle 3!!! Don't think he did either. However as you can see, aged 34 he marched through 4 defenders... THRICE!!! Sub-par defence there. As you can see, they all flocked around Keary... then they all tried to scramble to Cordner and poor fellows... there was nothing left in the tank by the time Morris got the ball'.

Preliminary final when we've got some really sophisticated (and rarely used) set plays that have not yet been identified during breakdowns? Fark that. Tell me what you saw Gus and Rabs... yes Cooper Cronk has a good boot doesn't he? Latrell has a good fend. I think that's enough thanks!!!

Haha I thought that when I saw it but I think he keeps his real aces up his sleeve (plus there would be different moves and strategies for each upcoming team based on their players, style etc).

Remember he (and the club) did do the ultimate bluff with the media regarding the status of Cronks shoulder, when it really did matter

The problem is that Robbo is more accommodating than any other NRL coach and people who do things differently leave themselves open to be attacked. I think last year he was a couple of per cent less open to the media and it worked and I think he could do the same again this year. Sure, he has to promote the game, but if people see him as holding seminars on rugby league, he's setting himself up as a bit of a target as 'the guy who puts the air into the footy'. Still, so long as he keeps winning comps, no one can lay a glove on him!

I'm with zac on this in preferring coach Robbo to say less and keep it in house. He clearly has what they call "footy IQ".

True! He also had the coach whisperer in his ear helping with how he talked to the media (I recall some of his methods including not saying certain phrases like hope etc?)

But as you said as long as he keeps winning he can do what ever he likes haha. I do like the culture of the club being supportive of growing the game, as well as things like not lying down milk penalties...sure at times seems like we giving away opportunities but its another thing the club has and does better than others ...plus we win too which makes us overall a successfully run club which pisses of the others even more! How good

Can you imagine dean pay trying to understand what Robbo said? I think we are safe from having secrets revealed
