  • Brandon Smith

What a dynamo player this kid is ...They are reporting he may be on the move since referee Smith re-signed for another 2 years .
Love Friendy but turns 29 and he has definately a few good years in him yet.
Good ol Unc Nick has moved on players before their time in the past when heading towards their end
In saying that it probably will not happen anyway .
    Makes a good arguement.
If it was me . I would sign him for next year.

No way Friend gets moved on, Nick and Robbie love him and he just won a premiership.

I'm happy with Jake, but you can see why he wants to move on. Close to MOTM in a test, he's in any other team's starting 13.

Succession planning is paramount for any aspiring organisation - business or sporting.

Also, Friend isn't a spring chook anymore!

Jake has 5-6 years left in his career, and I doubt he will moving on any time soon.

So no to Brandon Smith. I'd be looking more to Brodie Croft to perhaps replace CC when he retires. Keary will be experienced enough to take the lead role by then, espec if mentored by CC.
Supporting the RW&B, through good times and bad times.

After the way he went in the GF I’m happy with our Jake.

Would leave a massive defensive hole to fill that I don’t think Trent is ready to make.
Brandon is another nugget though. Has promise
              ..it’ll be interesting to see

Barely even 15 days into the new year and there's already a thread about moving Friend on.

Amazing for a player with the record he has how maligned he has been by supporters of his team.

Jake Friend is a legend of the club and there's nothing about his play that suggests he can't maintain his current level of performance for many years to come.

This is a discussion forum. Why are you trying to censor his free speech? If you don't agree with the topic that's fine, don't post. I'd have thought succession planning was a relevant topic. Brendon Smith certainly looks the goods. But it reminds of when Keary was playing for the bunnies and picturing him in a roosters Jersey was dirty.

But look how that turned out..

Also, we turfed jenko at the right time after winning a premiership. And now look how he's going. As mentioned, roster management is what separates the haves and the have nots.

Friend will only be 29 come the start of the new season. So he still has 3 good seasons in him at least.

I was one of his biggest critics last year after Jake had gone through a poor start to the year on the back of a couple of really poor seasons but the way he finished 2018 - particularly in the finals and being 2nd best on ground in the GF - showed that he still has plenty to offer.

More than that he is now a club legend and clearly one of the heart and soul players of the club. And I hope he goes on to join the 300 game club (same with Aubo).

So he isn't going anywhere any time soon and he's earned that right.

Do you understand the concept of free spech and discussion?

I'm making an observation. In no way am I telling him that he isn't entitled to his opinion, nor am I telling him that he needs to censor what he is saying.

I'm simply making an observation on the disproportionate amount of threads that get made about Jake Friend needing to be replaced compared to others especially when taking into consideration his service to the club.

Censoring his speech would be using my administration powers to delete this thread or ban him/take other action to diacourage posting this type of content.

Trying to censor his opinion would be telling him to stop posting threads.... something you hypocritically did in your own post towards me.

Saying you shouldn't post in a topic because you don't agree with it is just pure ignorance, that's what discussion is.

He was crap for the first half of last season. Terrible.

Then he got his act together and really finished strong.

I hope that's the level of performance he keeps up for many years to come.

                            1. Rooster6 is an admin (and I presume is actually Chris... that or one of Chris' mates - no other reason why some random forum poster would be an admin) so coulda censored the post if he wanted. Instead, he chose to comment on it.
                            2. I think the broader comment is that this happens every year even after we've just won a premiership. Such talk isn't banned but it's a bit silly (which is a fair observation).

                              We're a privlieged bunch, aren't we?

I think the club's unrelenting desire for success filters down to the fans.

Imagine being an Eels fan instead. Or Tigers, Warriors, or Knights until recently. Farkkk that.

We really are very lucky but I love the fact that we never rest on our laurels. Always whinging lol
