    Firstly, welcome Sproose.

Like many others here, I have and always will, call them Easts. Didn't like Sydney City Roosters, but don't mind Sydney Roosters and see no need to change that name.

On a side note, I hated the thankfully short-lived change to the jersey when Brian Smith was coach.

I always refer to us as Easts.

Ive never liked our emblem much so rarely use the Roosters, partly because of the bastardization of it from dikheads using Rorters or Rooters terms.

      We are Easts.

The 'Sydney' name was one of the reasons I started following the chooks as a kid in the early 2000s...well that and the success they had at the time probably helped a bit (a lot) too.

As a youngster from north shore at that time where the bears left and not wanting to follow Manly, I thought of 'Sydney' as my closest next thing to identify with.

I have a few mates of mine from the North Shore that were in the same boat, so I think the name change was a good move in signing up young fans and/or new fans to the game.

...also in saying all this I do get behind the 'Easts' identity of the club and consider myself from 'Eastern Sydney' rather than being a Westie

          Heart says Eastern Suburbs Roosters.
          Head says Sydney Roosters.

Hence the reason for the retro jersey. Love your work

I clearly remember the first time I heard of league. I was about seven and dad was talking to a friend about an upcoming game between Wests and Balmain. When I asked him what they were he explained - footy teams. So I asked him where there any others and he rattled off a few more. I distinctly remember the word Easts and replied, well I'm following Easts. Dad bought me a Dally M leather footy and built a set of goalposts in the backyard. I was 'addicted'.

Dad was an old codger when I was born - he was born in 1894 - so I got all the old Dally M stories as dad rated him the greatest ever. The family lived in 50 Glenmore Road before moving westward in the 1920's. One day when I proudly came home with Dave Brown's autograph, Dad brushed it off with not as good as Dally. But to Dad Trumper was always better than Bradman too, Dad played competitive cricket well into his sixties. I'm around that age now and have always loved Easts. I can cop the Roosters symbol as Big Jack introduced it.

Through the highs and the lows it's been a great ride with some magical players and warm memories. They'll always be Easts to me. I just loved the name first time I heard it and loved the guernsey first time I saw it. Never considered following anyone else, although had a soft spot for Norths and Newtown and used to trek also to Henson in my youth. But it's always been Easts and it's a pleasure to be among the like minded.

                Love your work, Louis!

Having a father born as early as 1894 you must have heard some cracking stories. Talk about a bridge between the old world and the new!

Stories like yours are a reminder of just how historical this great club is. The grandest old club in the league and it is indeed a privilege to be a supporter.

I'll be giving the Heritage jersey another run tomorrow. Wonder if the lads might wear that strip as I noticed Teddy wearing it in the promo shots..

Flogging a dead horse. It will never change back. But there is plenty of recognition of the Easts name around, including the song they play when we win a game.

My old man used to call the team Easts, i grew up calling us easts, so it'll probably always be Easts for me.

But don't mind Eastern Sydney and dropping the roosters

Don't like it when ppl refer to us as just the roosters. Mainly because of the whole "rorters rubbish.

Anyone keen on a more cool fearless creature as our mascot? Maybe like a lion - also proud just cooler sounding. Or East Sydney Raptors, Sydney Rhinos?

I could never understand us changing from Easts to Sydney , we are from the eastern suburbs.

Are you kidding, there are few critters around more fearless than a fired up cock. Cock fighting was a popular blood sport back in the day. In fact it seems getting your cock out is still pretty popular.

If you are born into a family that go's for Easts, Sydney City Roosters or the Sydney Roosters you know whats going on & it makes no difference what they re called.

We've got another cracking story now Tommy. What a great and gritty win tonight. It's got to have Bellyache worried. I reckon we've got another trophy to add the cabinet next Sunday evening.
