Also, keep in mind that Buzz Rothfield has come out publicly to damage the reputation of Sutton and he is a mad Sharks Fan. He may have more hatred against the Sharks now just because of it.
Or he may be out to prove he doesn't hate the Sharks.

Funny thing is when you get on the Sharks forum the reaction is exactly the same regarding Sutton & Cummins, they think their chances are shot before a ball is even kicked lol

No way! Someone needs to explain to them that we’re the only team the refs pick on

The NRL has announced the refereeing appointments for week one of the NRL finals, and there was one name Dragons fans were hoping to avoid - Sutton. Luckily, it's the the assistant referee Chris Sutton, not head referee Gerard Sutton who will be taking control of their elimination final against the Broncos on Sunday at Suncorp Stadium.

Brisbane hold a perfect 14-game record with Gerard Sutton in charge at home since 2014, and while it's an improvement, his brother's record still is quite ugly.

When Chris is holding the whistle, the Broncos have notched up 10 wins and one loss - a daunting statistic for Dragons supporters.

The Daily Telegraph's Phil 'Buzz' Rothfield praised the NRL's decision to keep Gerard Sutton away from Suncorp Stadium to avoid any claims of favouritism.

Instead, Gerard has his hands full with the qualifying final between the Roosters and Sharks on Saturday night at Allianz Stadium.

Gerard's performance will be under the microscope after he blew a whopping 16 penalties in the first half of Penrith's victory over Melbourne last Friday night, ruining the spectacle of a potential future finals match-up.

It was reported at half-time the controversial whistleblower received orders from high above to change his tactics, only awarding three penalties in the second half.

There is a belief the refereeing department have been advised to put the whistle away and let the finals flow freely, taking the same approach as the 2018 State of Origin series.

‘’After what we saw in the first half in Melbourne on Friday night with Gerard Sutton’s performance –totally over-refereeing with 16 first-half penalties – I’m told from my spies at NRL headquarters that the referees will get a similar message to what they got before the opening State of Origin game,’’ Rothfield told Fox Sports’ NRL 360 on Monday.

‘’That is let the games flow.

‘’I think it will be a big story. I think people are hanging out for the appointments.’’

            Well, here they are.

Storm v Rabbitohs - Head ref: Ashley Klein; Assistant ref: Adam Gee

Panthers v Warriors - Head ref: Matt Cecchin; Assistant ref: Henry Perenara

Roosters V Sharks - Head ref: Gerard Sutton; Assistant ref: Ben Cummins

Broncos v Dragons - Head ref: Grant Atkins; Assistant ref: Chris Sutton
            1911 1912 1913 1923 1935 1936 1937 1940 1945 1974 1975 2002 2013 2018 2019 2020

I've said all year our biggest hurdle come finals will be the game managers.
We will get caned no matter who we play.
cronulla wont get any favours if they come up against NZ, bronco pty ltd or Slaterbourne.

Here you go. It could be explained to the sharks fans in the form of a little documentary, "565 Reasons Why"

The refs will be instructed to lay off the penalties so as not to spoil the finals as a spectacle.

We are going to have to be on our game and well disciplined and not do anything to justify putting our blokes in the bin and not give any silly leg up penaltys late in the count. Hopefully with a bit of attention on Sutton's performances lately they will put the whistle away .

Yes I’m aware of Tommy’s little table. Can we have something a little more specific to Saturday’s game though please, like say our record under Sutton at Allianz?

That’s funny that Sutton was told to shove his whistle after half time during the Storm panthers game because I was telling some friends during the match that it looks like that’s what happened. I doubt that it will last long especially when he has to ref his favourite club during these finals.
