  • Robbos comments in Press Conference

Does anyone have any intel/or opinion on what was behind Robbos comments in the press conference about it being a difficult week in RL, and particularly lauding the salary cap?

It just seemed a very strange tack for a coach to take in a post match conference.

The dopes on Big League Wrap tonight just made fun of the Roosters coach mentioning the salary cap with the usual misguided stereotyping etc.

He meant that in the past two weeks, the focus of rugby league has been on the circus that is the coaches moving from club to club and the disruption it has caused.

instead the focus should be on the strength of the competition where bottom 8 teams are beating top 8 teams and that we should be thankful of having a fair competition that is monitored by the salary cap.

very odd thing to say, but that’s Robbo.

That makes sense Milanja...I sort of got the difficult week bit but the cap reference tricked me. You sound on the money.

Robbo is pushing for the establishment of a coaches association so this recent kerfuffle is an opportune time for him to push that cause. Regarding his salary cap comments, on the surface of it milanja has nailed it but like you Jacks Fur Coat , I found it a strange reference and wondered if there was something more to it. Time will tell.

Agree with everything said, but I also think he was taking head on the whispers about the Roosters' sombrero. He said what he said, but what he also meant was:

You pricks talk about us rorting the salary cap, but you've got no ****ing idea. Do you know how ****ing hard it is to get together a team like we've got under the salary cap rules? Do you? And yet we've done it within the rules. Yes, this is me talking with a straight face about the salary cap. You talk about us rorting the cap, but where's the evidence?! Put up or shut up, ya arseholes. Now go **** yourselves.

Yes, I'm sure Robbo thinks things in language that he doesn't always use ...

He should be pushing for a coach's association.

Milanja’s post is on the money. He’s just talking about how the focus of the media is on the coaches movements when it should be on the games and evenness of the competition. No more than that.

LOL, that made me laugh. Nice work zac.

I too thought it was a strange comment out of context so thanks to JFC for asking the question and others for replying.

I'm a fan of Yvonne Sampson and what she has brought to the Fox coverage, but being a Broncos fan she is in no position to throw stones regarding Sombreros.

And I did tweet that to her as well.

Well done JC. Inaction by the Roosters could be interpreted as acceptance of such comments. Seeing that the club don't say much on the subject, it's left to supporters of the club to do something.

                          Good on you.

They didnt even bother to note the context in that he was praising the cap not complaining about it.

                          Bit Homer like..."Huh? Salary Cap....Roosters Coach...thats funny...."
