Can't win games without the cattle.
This year we didn't have the cattle once so many top players got injured.
The rookies tried hard and played well at times, but not as well as the topline first graders opposing them.

I agree with you to an extend re: the cattle.

HOWEVER, players like Carney are NOT one in a million. Every year the NRL unearths roughly 3-5 genuine superstars. They will keep coming. The most important thing our club can do is instil a culture and attitude so that next time a 'Carney' comes, they will have to fit in. Very much like the Donkeys, or Manly.

If you want to see where attitude (without much brilliance) gets you, look no further than the Saints the last 2 seasons. Genuine contenders through attitude.

Although injuries contributed, i believe the majority of games this year were lost due to attitude. That includes discipline, commitment, energy and belief. How many soft tries have we let in this year when the defender did not want to make sufficient contact with the opposition ? Now compare that to the last 3-4 weeks where our players have been throwing themselves around the field saving tries. One must look no further than JWH in the last few weeks. Or even Phil Graham who at times last season looked like he was on another planet. Attitude wins games.

      • Big Mike is right.
Attitude was a big player in the results this year.

For the last four games there was a huge change in attitude with the cleaning out of Carney and Myles.
This showed us what the "cattle" we have are capable of.

The last 4 weeks have been no accident I reckon. Either both those blokes Carney & Myles were a negative or maybe with them effectively gone, the side get some certainty, focus & the attitude changes.

Everybody here (just about) was saying earlier in the season that there was something smelly or wrong at the Roosters, well maybe the source of that has been found and the boys could just get on, play the type of footy they are capable of, finish on a high & plan for 2012.

Some catttle may just come at a price that's too high.

Also, like Smith said, these rookies of earlier in the season have now played more first grade games and are more experienced...hence their better play in the last few matches.
