Pearce hopes Carney stays in NRL

    FROM THE ABC ONLINE TODAY

    Updated August 25, 2011 11:57:33

Mitchell Pearce describes the Todd Carney situation as 'very disappointing' and hopes things will work out for a good mate and player.
Map: Bondi Junction Todd Carney's future at Sydney Roosters is up in the air, but team-mate Mitchell Pearce hopes the wayward star has a home somewhere in the NRL next year.

Carney, who is in danger of having his Roosters contract torn up following his latest alcohol-related breach, has been stood down for the remainder of the regular season and will learn his fate at the end of the club's campaign.

Should Carney be sacked from the club, the NRL has yet to indicate whether it would register any contract offered by another club for 2012 and beyond.

But Pearce, Carney's good friend and halves partner, would like to see him allowed to continue with another club if he should be let go.

"Obviously I hope he's playing somewhere," Pearce said.

"But I honestly don't know what the situation is with it all, hopefully that will work itself out soon."

Pearce admits he has considered the possibility that he has played his last match alongside Carney, and says from a football perspective that is "disappointing".

"For sure, he's a good mate of mine and a very good player," he said.

"It's very disappointing but it's out of our hands and we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

"...I've thought about (the prospect of not playing with Carney again) a little bit but I'm not too sure what's going on with it at the moment.

"I've talked to Toddy a little bit but I can't really comment because I'm not too sure what's going on there."

Despite the drama surrounding Carney's future, and that of Gold Coast-bound Nate Myles, who was also banned for breaking a team drinking ban, Pearce says the mood at the club was positive ahead of Friday's showdown with Parramatta.

"Everyone is really upbeat at the moment, the last couple of weeks," he added.

"Obviously we had a bit of drama throughout the year at different times but not one time have the boys bitched or anything like that.

    "It's all been pretty happy."

If it would have been up to Pearce we would have kept the Wanka Mason too. And no doubt Myles would still be here as well.

Lil JuJu can keep TC as a mate if he so chooses (although it has to be said the lad picks the wronguns to hang around), he doesn't have to be a team mate.

Got the distinct feeling, reading this, that Carney is gone.
      Anyone else see it diff?

It would appear that our future captain wants Carney to stay..

        What about our current captain..??

Anasta pretty much said the same thing, all the boys want him to stay.

It's ridiculous that a promise is broken to them yet they get no say in it what happens.

One only has to read Leila McKinnon's article to realise that Carney is gone.

            5pm 2GB news;

"Roosters forward Nate Myles has been fined and excused from the final two games of his contract.
He'll be joining the Gold Coast Titans."

He was a sinner at the club, got fined ... and moves on to another NRL club...while poor Toddy gets fined, kicked out, and banned by the NRL from playing for another club.

            An outrage!

Talk about being nailed to the cross of injustice!

It seems that the extended time for the decision and Pearces comment lean towards Carney staying at the club, I hope it works out that way. With Myles and Watts gone and having not broken any law, I think he should have the right to stay! Getting Frank on the paddock and Myles early leave tells me the decision is already been made, Carneys still here so he must be staying!

actually it seems anything but that. Pearce's comment suggest Carney is all but gone. The extension for the decision does seem to hang in Carney's favour though

I don't believe that Pearce has any right to be passing judgement on anyone. He calls himself a mate. A mate wouldn't go shooting his mouth off to the very institution that created this debacle - the media. As for Nate. I think he has given the roosters good service over a lot of years and has been treated like S%@#. Todd;s good mates are supporting him and are there for him and not talking to anyone. As for buying another hooker. Is it like a toyotathon except roosters are having a hookerathon.

nate was on very good coin the entire time he was with us and did not try his best for a large proportion of the time. Lots of soft hit-ups, nothing like how he put his body on the line for Qld in SOO. I hear he was "hurt" when he was told to shop himself around early this year, but I think management got it right on this one. Yes, a great player when he wants to be, but overall he ripped us off during his time here. And his last gesture for which he was excused from duties for the rest of the year and fined, was a grand shi.t in the faces of the organization and supporters who subsidized his high salary. Showed his true colours, a grub and waste of trust, salary cap space and opportunity. Pi.ss off back to Qld Nate and thanks for the 2 months or so you actually put any effort in for us.

Yes well said. Nate joins a long line of Queenslanders who did pretty much nuthen for the roosters but were world beaters in origin. Can't think of too many of the top of my head but I'm sure there were plenty.

I do have a bit of grudging respect though for any man who can shit himself in public and indignantly pass it off as a stomach bug and carry on his career as though it never happened. He deserves some credit for pulling that off.

They would've been the NSW halves pairing for the next decade, such a waste.
