  • Ryan Matterson update

Ryan Matterson was still suffering mild concussion symptoms last week, but has reportedly recovered well from minor wrist surgery. Has not been named this week, & his availability week to week will likely remain a fluid situation as treatment continues for his concussion symptoms.

has to be serious concerns that he is still suffering concussion symptoms 5-6 weeks after the incident.

I don't believe it. You don't have concussion symptoms for 6 weeks after copping a ball to the face.

It’s a worry. But I can’t wait to see Sitili get a run.

Seriously? Concussed that long from a ball to the head? What a soft coq?

Why not? He copped a flying ball in te face from point blank that I presume woulda been travelling at over 100km/hr. I copped a ball in the face during social soccer the other week and it farking hurt. Forget who kicked but IMO I would be struggling for weeks if (for example) Latrell booted a ball into my head from point blank. He kicks balls ~70m... imagine the point of impact being your head...

Good old physics tells us that force = mass x accelleration. Compare it to a stray elbow...
              - Arm weighs maybe 15kg and travels at maybe 3-6km/hr.
              - A footy weighs what... 2kg (some expert can correct me) but travels at 100-150km/hr I reckon.

I’d take a knock from SSTs elbow over a pie in the face from Latrell any day of the week (not that either would be enjoyable).

Or - might as well be a non-believer.

Good luck to Matto. He started the season well and is an important part of the squad.

I would much prefer a ball in the face than an elbow from. Sst.

Get well soon Matto . As we are becoming more increasingly aware any concussion /head trauma must be given utmost caution. I hope it's nothing serious .

I hope these reports of ongoing concussion symptoms are wrong. It is starting to have a Liam Fulton early retirement feel to it.

ism22 Not sure that checks out, as the elbow is thrown at force, and as such it’s “weight” and velocity would be far in excess of your estimates above. Plus the elbow is hard and pointed, so there’s that too.
Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

The only way Matto would be still out for concussion related issues is if he had some pre existing condition that has been triggered by the ball to the scone incident.

i think most of us (playing junior footy) hsve copped a thwack to the head with a Steeden. It stuns you and knocks you for a while but...you recover pretty quickly.

                              Strange.
