  • Braith is this clubs most valuable asset

for the life of me the most irrational thing i have ever read on this forum, or ever heard come out of a roosters fans mouth is, we should sell anasta, or anasta is a poor captain, or anasta is not a quality player.

I will argue with anyone that Braith Anasta is the most valuable asset the roosters have at the moment. He is inspirational, leads from the front, tackles runs and generally plays himself into the ground every week, when we are losing by 30 he takes every hitup when we are winning by 30 he will make a try saver. He quite simply bleeds for this club, for this reason he is the ideal captain to lead our club.

I believe the captain of a sides most important responsibility is too lead by example and Braith in my opinion is the only player in the current side who does this. He is intellegent articulate and seemingly a genuinly likeable person...he should be the roosters captain for 5 years.

I understand questions about his role in the team, he is too slow to be the teams lead playmayer, it should never be his responsibility. i would like too see him play the role ash harrison does at the titans, 3rd playmaker behind a steady 7 and a brilliant six, ideally pearce and carney. He provides a hard running hard tackling honest tryer. the type of player we need in 2010.

I see the 2010 Roosters, as a young, inexperianced side with a lot of flair and creativity, ball playing props like hargreaves, a mobile backrow of symonds anasta and sa, an excillirating 6, a steady 1 in mini, quick wingers in skd and towers and williamson and aubs in the centres. In this team i believe the lynchpin of success will be the leader, and in that position i believe Braith is the only real option.

that is why i believe Braith Anasta is our clubs most valuable asset.

This is kind of what I suggested earlier on:

    6. Carney
    7. Pearce
    8. Nuuausala
    9. Friend
    10. Myles/Shackleton
    11. Sa
    12. M Aubusson
    13. Anasta

    14. (a good impact hooker)
    15. Symonds (ballplaying lock/backrower)
    16. Paea
    17. Warea-Hargreaves

Cherrington could maybe slot in somewhere too if he stays. That would be one hell of a pack. Big, mobile, skillful and aggressive.

      Top post mate!

Without Anasta we wouldn't have won half the games we have since 2007, he is our best player when we are losing and he's our best player when we're winning... this is what your captain has to be. He is far from our main problem at the moment and like you say is in fact one of the good things the club has going for it.

My only gripe with him is that he needs to pass the ball a little more. He does to much with the belief he can score on his own.

More like he cant trust the imposters outside him. We have no centres.

Glad you qualified that is only your opinion..

I agree that he tries his guts out every week..

My problem with him being captain is mainly his reactions & body language when we are under the pump..

He get that "spoiled kid who has been punished" look on his face..

He has no idea how to relate with refs, therefore we get hammered in the penalties EVERY week (plus our discipline is that of an 18 month old baby)..

I also reckon his defensive game is nowhere near good enough to be playing lock,he would have to double,or triple his count every week, plus run & ball-play..

PLUS the "Dogs tattoo"..Are you really happy with OUR captain having a clearly visible OPPOSITION tatt close to their heart?

Also i want to know what happens to him at 1/2 time, where he loses any form of creativity he has shown in the first 40...Actually MORE importantly,i want to know where his WHOLE game goes in the LAST 20 minutes of game..

              Again..just my opinion

It's funny when we actually move the ball wide we look half decent. Take last week we scored two good tries out wide from a long way out then we follow it up with 3 hit ups and 2 inside passes. I don't think either Anasta or Pearce have good vision, they are reactionary players

He tries hard and is a decent player but a good leader I think not.. However apart from Fitzy I can't be sure who is a good leader in the team tbh..

Craig Wing may make a good leader as he is maturing as a player...

He is playing well, that meets up with the notion he is looking for an out from Souths.
He isn't a good leader though, my impression is he has the rep as a loner and a bit of a prat, but I could be wrong

The way I understand it is that he is very disciplined and this can irk a few people that are not...

That is true, he lacks that vital ingredient 'composure' which separates the best playmakers from the rest.. I struggle to believe he can play the role that will be required of him if he moves to Lock next year as surely he won't be making the tackles Fitzgibbon is making.. I just see him and Carney competing for the ball and Braith getting angry if Carney sees more of it.
                          ...

Braith is class, but the captaincy has detracted from his game.
Who should replace him as Skipper?

Pearce i think is the obvious choice. But I'd give it to Pez as long as he's in the #1 jersey.
