  • The issue goes further than Carney

Yes Carney is a piss head and a dumb fark for continuing to fark up, but why are we just bagging Carney.

What about other players, the protected few who were regular drinking buddies with Todd in the off season, even as early as a 3 weeks ago they were seen drinking together, a track record of "off field" incidents but a protected species with the media and supporters alike.

Just because the cameras don't follow them, does not mean they are not as bad if not worse than Dally M.

If we sack one we should sack them all!!!!!!

Apart from Myles i would sack no-one

A piss weak alco ban and set up

In fact if the tele's journos hung out around the shires night spots on a friday, saturday night Cronulla, Saints and the Dogs would struggle to field teams.

Try the old General Bourke,Argyle street hotel, Peachtree Inn or Pioneer hotel on the same nights and the riff and Eels would be cringing.

The cameras only see what the reporter wants it too.

Sack your best player and all of a sudden the others will tow the line.

Last time I looked drinking and hanging with Mates was not a crime, the way it is portrayed in the press one would be excused for thinking it was.
The sad thing is the frequency of these indiscrections being brought into the public arena, that brings the whole sport into disrepute.

Unfirtunately JT i do not think they will, they are footballers 1st and foremost, the drinking culture starts at around 14/15 years of age, it is just accepted as normal, when in fact it is a disgrace and needs to be nipped in the bud, most of these blokes have the iq the size of a pea, the elite players identified at a young age, given everything.

Myself personally i do not drink alcohol, i do not begrudge anyone that does

IMO sacking someone for drinking will mean nothing to the remaining players, they have been brought up around the amber liquid, nothing will change.

It's not the drink that's the problem - it's the lack of self control and willpower of the individuals who choose to abuse it.

And the real reason for sacking Carney is not the drink - it's the simple fact he has shown he can't be trusted. The drink is just an excuse, if it wasn't that it would be the depression, whatever was in vogue at the time.

There are other players who abuse this trust as much if not more than Todd, but we hear not a murmour, the protected few who's shit smells like roses.

If the Cameras followed one player in particular like it does Todd, people would be begging for forgiveness, understanding, pleading his innocence. He would be seen to not be the angel many think he is, but like Lockyer, Johns he is protected.

I dare say Todd could be having a backyard BBQ or a drink at his dinner table and tomorrow we would see a picture with a headline blazened above it. "Alcoholic Todd does it again"

It is agenda driven bullshit that has crossed the line more than once.

When Carney turns up to a game pissed, assaults someone on the piss it is time for him to go

What he and others do in their down time is their own business, just like us

Sacking him gives an opposite result to what we have copped by not sacking him earlier in the season when he messed up.

                      Yes, what about them?

They from 'the playing group' LOL

The holier than thou 'playing group'.

Gotta have a scapegoat for the 'bottom' of the ladder season failure.

Smith should stop saying 'softc.cking it in the second half' like he did in that ch9? doco when he was mentoring young players at Newcastle.

...seeing as how we're demanding perfect standards in the place.

                        The issue is over.

Once the players and coach don't want him, it's over.

The players want to go learn to pass and catch a football without dropping it...and play the ball properly...on the first tackle!

                          As well as:

Trapping the ball without kicking it forward.
                          Staying onside from the kickoff.
Not throwing forward passes from dummy half.
Not kicking out on the full from the kickoff.
Not kicking out on the full from a penalty.
Not dropping the ball in tackles.
                          Not throwing high tackles.
Not dropping the ball all the time in attack.
Having at least one set play in attack.
Playing for more than 30 minutes.
Not stuffing up play the balls and giving away possession.
Not coughing up possession immediately from the kickoff after scoring a try.
The coach not stuffing up the replacements.

                          etc
