  • The Morning After

    There were ridiculous calls.

    Outrageous.

    Disgraceful.

I am no stranger to blaming the ref. And in this game it’s justified to do so.

But we should have lapped that Broncos side.

    We really should have.

We should have, but errors cost both teams. If the Broncos had gone on to win with Napa still on the field, I’d be more angry about the stupid stuff, particularly all the unforced errors, but I wouldn’t feel robbed as I do now. But the ref decided the outcome instead, and I can’t cop that. It’s never a refs place to decide a game, and never EVER for such a bullshit reason. Even after a good night’s sleep, I still think Sutton should be jailed for what he did last night.

Wayne bennets elation in the coaches box looked like he won Powerball . He knows the roosters should have won that game

How many errors did we make? And how many in our own half?

The talent is obviously there but we are just way too dumb to win the comp.

At some point there has to be a culture shift within the club where they start to respect the ball...

Just want this weekend to be over. While I agreed with many here that we were probably robbed by that decision of Sutton to send Napa to the bin for what I thought was a legitimate tackle, that last try the Broncos scored was embarrassing. Realistically, that is why we lost. In the end our defence at that time failed.

Mind you, overall we are still improving week by week. We are still building. It just wasn’t our night. Next week the guys will really lift after the pain of that loss. The best is yet to come.

Not too fussed about the loss.
We should have beaten an understrength Broncos side but there is a reason Sutton has now won 15 in a row for the Broncos.
Reminds me of that 16-1 streak Archer had with the Dragons leading into the 2010 GF.

Their speed killed us in the end with Jimmy (twice) and the last try.
I thought the key moment was Latrell hitting the post with the last try. 8 up would have been a different ball game.

Anyway, I thought our attack improved once again after last week. We scored some great tries and a few loose passes could have been even more.
Once Toups come back I think both left and right will improve even further. Manu will offer much more than Maubs on the right side attack.

                We are building nicely.

                  Manu’s defence is still questionable!

14 errors to Brisbane's 6 is what lost the game for us. That also meant we only completed at 71%, and still should have won the game. Forget about last night, if we want to win the comp this year, that completion rate has to be above 80 or even 85% in the big games. Errors should be less than 6 in any given game, you should not be dropping the ball more than half a dozen times if you want to win against the best teams in the comp.

I tell you though, if Blake Ferguson drops the ball more than once again Id drop him back to reserve grade.

                    Up the chooks

I literally had bad dreams about it.

Still, even though the Broncos had players out, they played well.

We had too many errors - as did the refs - but we look like we're not far off.

Yep. That Jimmy try everyone is playing in the highlights reel made us look flat-footed and stupid. We had ample opportunities to shut that down but failed.

But with the last try, if the ref had actually refereed by the NRL rules, there was a head clash, Sims dropped the ball and we would have had it with great field position. Instead, Sutton played by some as-yet-unidentified-rules, the Broncos got a penalty, a bonus 12 man opposition, an ecstatic home-town crowd and scored against 12 men. So I can forgive them letting in that last try.

And as a measure of just how bad that decision was, even Rothfield tweeted that he felt sick for Roosters supporters after that decision.

Would have been nice if our halfback could have steered us around the park.

I agree that the Roosters were duded last night in regards to the Napa sin binning but the game as a whole has become soft due to pressure from the media & parents (mums) that think its to rough. Any tackle these days that is aggressive gets pulled up & the tackler gets penalised for tackling to hard. Its happened to many times especially by Roosters players eg. Tetevano, Radley & now Napa who pull off a ripper of a tackle legitimately & end up being penalised.

I thought it was a very good game where the Latrell missed kick at goal was crucial. We were on top and 8 point lead would have got us home. We got beaten on the back of two brilliant individual tries from the broncos and a horrible refereeing decision. I'm disappointed in the loss but not the effort . Some of the young islander forwards the Broncos have are going to be guns.
