  • Jake’s Injury

For those that think Jake hasn’t regressed in his service this season check this from NRL Physio:

Jake Friend has played the last month with a fractured sternum, requiring pain killing injections and padding to get through games. Common one in the NRL (Scott Bolton played through same injury for 12 wks last yr), known as one of the most painful injuries

That would definitely affect his passing.

So give him a rest for a few weeks and play VRad?!?

What happened to the coaching staff reducing his minutes this season? I'm yet to see it happen? Especially if he is injured..why is that not happening?

It has become clear that Robbo thinks that friend is a crucial part of the team otherwise he would have either been dropped or benched (due to his terrible form) or rested (due to injury).

it has also become clear that friend will always be in the team whilst Robbo is coach.

i've lost all faith in Robbo this season and now want him gone

i raised Jakes previous chest / lung injury in another post yesterday and low and behold it comes out in the media today he has a sternum injury and maybe likely the same injury he had sometime ago which ruled him out injured. Listening to him in press conferences he always seems short of breath either due to both or he suffers a high state of anxiety.

While I applaud Jake's dedication and toughness to play through this injury, the stubbornness to continue to play to the detriment of on field performances is confounding.

In his current form we lose nothing by playing Radley & Baptiste as dummy halves, and using Butcher in the back row. Give him a rest Robbo. Give us all a rest.

Good on him for pushing through the pain to play for the team i like that. but surely him, robbo or someone must realise that its bloody stupid instead of playing in pain and playing crap have a few weeks off and get recovered, its kind of selfish to keep putting himself on the field thinking he would make a positive contribution over 80 minutes, if him and robbo are so desperate for him to play have a proper rotation policy with him so they can manage the injury properly. But this also doesnt explain his bad form before the injury. Hope he recovers quickly

If this injury is as bad as they are making out, Robbo and his medical staff need their collective head read, it is incompetence to play him, but Robbo has a habit of playing injured players, Toops in last years Semi was not ready, a couple of years ago Pearce tears a hammy Pre semis, Hastings was doing well, club doctors told Robbo Pearce will be ok running a straight line, as soon as he moves laterally the thing will tear, Robbo and Pearce decide he is ok, Pearce lasts no more than 10 mins.

bad choices in pressure situations is becoming a habit unfortunately

Typical behaviour from the Nugget. He gives everything for this club.

Probably also doesn't want to lose his position.

Hmmm, is this an honourable way of suggesting he needs a break through injury rather than humiliating a loyal servant by dropping him?

                          All players play with injury.

It’s irresponsible to play such an injured player. I suspect the real motive is that Friend knows if he is replaced for any length of time the team will go so well without him that he will find it almost impossible to win his spot back. Playing with an injury is to me an admission that Friend knows he is on the verge of being shafted and is doing all in his power to avoid that from happening.

Carefully managed PR exercise, only for Radley to get suspended. At least he gets a trip to NZ for his last game
