  • Anyone else miss Pearcy?

After watching 10 rounds what I am seeing is not just slow service out of dummy half. We had that last year. What we had last year and not this year is a first receiver who was quick and ran to the advantage line before passing. This would give the second receiver more space and time. This is not happening in 2018. By the time the second receiver gets the ball the defence are on top of him. This is the case 9 times out of 10. In my opinion most of the reason the outside backs aren’t getting the ball.
I am not bagging Cronk, but he is not as quick as our former half back. At Melbourne he had a dummy half that would draw the markers and it wasn’t an issue. For things to improve changes have to be made. I don’t know what the answer is because so far this year the coach hasn’t addressed this issue and is hesitant to admit there is a problem there.

Nope. Hard to forget last years Prelim disaster.

Big changes were needed after one of the most disappointing and impotent losses in our history.

Let's wait until the season is over before we judge Cronk.

There was more than one player at fault for last years preliminary final loss. I believe the forwards and their lack of impact was a big reason. Also, having a winger on the bench for 70 minutes didn’t help.

Actually, on reflection the lack of go forward up front was the main reason. Plus the inept defence. Plus the fact on the day the Cowboys wanted it more.

Yes RoosterChick I’m with you. Pearce was the cornerstone of our attack and we are struggling without him.

Cronk is not creating any doubt in the opposition defence and looks very plain so far.

Including Pearce's inept defence on Martin.

                  No....

With the amount of posts and threads about Pearce, it's like he has never left....

It was a bad day, but you can’t put the blame onto one player.

Not really TBH. Like anybody he is just a player. I respect the good times we had and obviously 2013 was a massive part of what Pearce was about with us.

But like, there is no use hanging onto ex-Roosters who play elsewhere. I wish him, Maloney, RTS, Morts, Watson...etc the best. However, our current team is Cronk, Keary, Tedesco and Radley. Context is all and IMO our current squad is the focus.

It is rough knowing we probably coulda kept Maloney, Pearce and RTS for less than their replacements have cost us. However again... context is all. IMO most players NEED to move around so that they maintain interest/form/motivation. I dunno if RTS, Maloney and Pearce all woulda found their current season form by sticking around.

PS - isnt Pearce out for the season? Not exactly something I would want this year in place of Cronk.

It certainly wasn't all Pearce's fault. The blame could be spread evenly across every player and the coaching staff.

But I just felt that after another disastrous finals campaign we needed to undergo a big change as the playing group was becoming stale. A new no.9 would have been great too.

Nope. And not just on the field, you would never know if we were gonna be on the mrng news due to another Pearce headline. Newcastle is the best place for cover ups.

Fair post RoosterChick, and even though I think Mitch leaving was right for both us and him, you do notice the different strengths and weaknesses between him and Cooper.

Overall though we are better off and having a cool headed leader on the park, and great role model off it is a win for us. It will bear fruit if Coach lets it happen.

Newie suits Mitch I think and hes playing some terrific footy in a less structured and more supportive environment. Im happy to see that...I like him.

That was a woeful effort from a supposed good defender
