Some interesting thoughts there King Salvo. Things that would make me go to more Roosters games: 1. Better scheduling - I just can't get there on a week day. 2. Better transport - Sydney traffic is a nightmare and the public transport options are unreliable. 3. Better facilities - self explanatory. 4. Family unity - we are split down the middle, 2 Roosters, 2 Dragons, which means half the games I see are Dragons games and this affects the utility of a membership. Consequently, I only have a 4-game membership. From what I understand, in Melbourne, you are born a Richmond Tiger, Carlton Blue etc and don't really get to decide for yourself.

Victorians have no lives outside of football.

Melbourne is Australia’s arse-hole and apart from attending footy there is nothing else to do there.

          - Sydney will end up losing the GF when it is open for bids again for sure and certain.

Just under 12000 last night - Wests Tigers vs Broncos for instance

Looking at the Richmond AFL site one of 9 Melbourne based teams they have over 86,000 members- over 90,000 for their first home game of the season vs Carlton-Roosters one of 9 Sydney based NRL sides have just on 16,000 members and just over 12,000 for their first home game. Sure they played at the MCG which can hold 100,000 but 9/10 of the ground was full compared to 1/4 or less for the Roosters first home game.

No club will ever survive if they are getting 8000 or less to their games in the NRL- most make a loss from their football operations - The NRL need to do more in conjunction will clubs to not only address game day attendances but to also get people to become members one has to say.
Melb attend more events because it's their culture to go to them instead of just watching it on tv. It's hard enough to get your mates to travel 5 suburbs to go to the pub let alone, fans of football clubs to go to games.

What at the nrl and clubs need is to get the casual club supporters to games not just the rusted on fans like us here on the chookpen forum.

If $5 tickets to this game aren't incentive enough, well.. maybe Pearce was right.

All those factors are relevant in Melbourne it's just that they get on with it and attend events like Grand Prix, Aus Open tennis, Horse racing, soccer, etc
Sydney people just hide behind the excuse that it's all too hard and relax into the couch at home to see these events.
The government is well aware of this problem, ie the upgrades in facilities such as Randwick, Parra stadium, maybe Olympic park, maybe Moore Park.
The truth is the Sydney culture is poor in attending events until generational change occurs.

Rugby League go toe to toe with the AFL money wise from television money but for as long as I have followed Rugby League the governing body has always had no idea on how to manage/save money. AFL leaves Rugby League for dead in attendance figures because the AFL hierarchy are more powerful over the clubs & manage their money better allowing them to market the game better which means more grass roots players which means more supporters. More supporters more members.
