  • Next year

Unfortunately next year won't be much better for our club.

There are many of you around here who will be in disbelief at that statement. I'm sure there will be plenty on here who will come out and say that we can win the comp next year. Heck there was plenty of you guys who still thought we could make the 8 only around a month ago.

Next year will not be much better so its best to try to get used to it from now unfortunately.

Obviously we are a million miles from winning the comp.

The result this year will allow Smith to run a pre-season addressing the points he wants to address. Also the play the ball clean up will have settled down a little this year and we will have adjusted. This year the game has been a lot slower and that has hurt teams like us, Canberra, Penrith and even the Tigers.

I believe we will be well and truly alive for the 8, given a little bit of luck (we have had none this year).

Not even close mate. Unless there are massive changes then we will be battling for the spoon again next year.

We could win the comp, we could get the spoon. Whilst we persist with the slowest backline in the competition I will lean more towards the spoon.

Have to agree with Fred on this point. If Smith can't "address the points" of our decline during the season, what makes you think he can do it in the off season?

              Chook.

Because the off season is where your work on strategy - changes during the year are tactical. His off season was torpedoed last year.

I am not making excuses for Smith - he needs to get results next year - but I am not writing off next year before Mad Monday.

Gauranteed noone thought we'd make last years GF at the start of 2010, i was hopeful of top 8.
This Year was thinking GF winners and definate top 4 finishers but what a MASSIVE let down.

Next year, ouch, weve made no major signings that will help or change direction of the team, yet other clubs are making significant signings in key areas like Cronulla, Titans, Parramatta.

If you don't mind me asking. What kind of changes?

without a change in personnel, expect another 2011 scenario.

I agree in theory, the problem is Brian Smith doesn't coach with a defined strategy. He coaches with the belief you can't have a "tried and true formula" of playing else your opponents will work it out and exploit it. He coaches the team to play differently depending on who we are playing. Again sounds good in theory, but in practice...we're staring at the spoon.

And to be brutal our decline this year has been purely tactical. We are unable to build any pressure primarily due to our poor last tackle options and our insistence on giving up possession and penalties.

Can't see him changing his coaching anytime soon can you?

                            Chook.

and last year we were staring at a premiership.

rugby league is largely a game of confidence these days.
